Maybe it is just me, but I see more contributions using Wikipedia as a source for name change.
Since Wikipedia is easily changed by almost any user I feel this site is about as reputable a IMDB.

Is this just a personal problem, or is it really a poor choice of reference.

(And yes I know some submissions use this as only one of the sites, but it still bugs me.)

I agree... I wouldn't trust wikipedia... not as a sole source anyway. If they use it as one of several references... the other references needs to be something more substantial in my opinion.

Considering what ABC, CBS & Fox have done in the past few months to alter not only their own entries in Wkipedia but others as well, I would actually trust imdb more than Wiki... (not that I trust imdb at all)
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Wikipedia is just as bad if not worse than IMDb as Wikipedia has no peer review. I wouldn't accept any contribution that uses Wikipedia as the sole source.

Use wikipedia as source for a name change: No.
Use wikipedia as validation tool for determining which "common name" to pick: Yes.

I agree it should not be a sole source, but in it's defense it does have one big difference from IMDB in that most of it's article site sources at the end of it.  A lot of times if I find something on Wiki I'll check the sources and find out where the person(s) got that info to begin with and usually end up using that instead of Wiki.

Good point Vega.
And just to point out - using any 3rd party database as a sole source of information is not allowed - it doesn't matter how reliable they are!

When I see all those repeatedly discussions concerning valid sources, I think it should be clearly defined in the rules what sources are legal. E.g. for cast and crew I would recommend as valid sources:
1. The original DVD,
2. The original DVD
3. The studios and/or distributors, such as HBO, Fox, Universal etc.

All other informations in the www can be cross-linked and copied. Who can guarantee the accuracy?
