I've laid out my concerns about bullying at the Invelos forums in another post  and I've created this poll to try and get a specific feel for how much of an impact (if any) it's actually having.

I'm not trying to start a fight (although I suspect that it's inevitable), but I honestly think this needs addressing.

I'm not really wanting to see names or 'obvious pointers' to an individual from regular posters, but I must confess to being interested in any brave readers of less than ten post-count naming names (so that it can't be brushed off as a personal grudge), although I accept that this may not be appropriate. If a few people say no, then let's not do that.

In the interests of trying to prevent spiraling hostilities, I'd suggest that this should be a thread of personal opinions only and that people shouldn't be required to justify or defend their statements: e.g.
- "I think xxxxx is nasty to people and I don't want to be on the receiving end"
- "I don't think I'm nasty, give me one example!"
- "Here"
- "They were being insulting etc."
What's more, I'd even suggest refraining from reference to other posts at all - each post should be an independent statement.

Some users say they know people who have left the forums because of others. Well, tell them that this is their chance to show that they are unhappy, so get them to vote. Who knows, if these are the invisible army, this may show it.

Finally, I'm going to declare myself as lord and master of this thread - i.e. if I tell you to stop it, you stop it. By what power do I do this? None at all. It's just one of those situations where it can easily get out of hand and if you can't accept following rules, don't participate. BTW, although I'm declaring myself in charge, I know that I defer to the great and mighty Invelos and will do so immediately.

Here goes

Well I've voted and don't mind admitting to what I voted for

My posting (or lack of) is largely unaffected by the attitudes of others, but I recognise a problem (with specific users)

And yes things are getting worse around here...thank you Stuart for pointing some of these things out. I know of at least 1 new user who is beginning to regret coming to these forum's because of the attitude of some of the participants, and there are times when I even consider leaving.

I have tried a simple pratice of quoting the offending post (so it cannot be altered or deleted later) and entering the text:

^Ignore"

Unfortunately, the vast majority of participants on this forum jump right in and respond to flamebaiting and insulting remarks and the downward spiral continues.

Until people start ignoring this stuff, the problem will never go away.

I believe there is a small group who literally thrive on this garbage and will never be rehabilitated.

From my ~15 years Usenet-experience, I still believe that ignoring the worst of them works. Either by selctive reading or technical help. In the end the attention-seeker that don't get attention will go away. And yes, they may ramble on a while ... but let them. If a small child is throwing a tantrum you ignore it too.
No, I don't think that is an ideal solution for the problem, but the best I know. Calling them out would give them attention, banning them from the forums would do the same.

That's why I've always ignored most of the posts in the past, as I think you're right - the more attention they get, the worse they are.
Unfortunately, there do seem to be quite a few users on here who just can't seem to let things like this go by and rise to the flame-baiting.
Hopefully if more people start using the standard "unacceptable post" comment, these users will notice that the post in question has been acknowledged by others and not rise to it themselves.

These forums can be an intimidating place.  I made a mistake one time and was taken to VERY rude task by 4 people.  I will only say they are the same four people who act like they own the forums.  There are posters here who act like they own or are the official voice of Invelos, by the way they aren't.  I have seen them savagely attack posters on more than one occasion.  I love the ignore idea and if only one person was taunting they can be ignored.  Unfortunately, it doesn't stop with the one person's comments.  Others normally from this group join in.  Then attacks become personal including naming calling.  I have been a member since 2002, but rarely post because it is not worth the argument if one of the the 4 horseman don't agree with your opinion.  As Forrest Gump would say, "That's all I have to say about that."

My choice is the third option. Personally, I've never had someone rude with me since I don't post anything really "contreversial". I don't really post much, but that have nothing to do with anyone (the reason is that my english writting is not so great and I don't want to hurt anyone with it  )

But like everyone here I can read and yes there are some problem here and not necessary with the more obvious user. All of us write far too much in some reply, sometime with just one word we can start a war.

The problem is that moderators are needed. Not this stupid "Ignore User" feature that is nothing but detrimental....but actual moderators who will delete nonsense. Ken/Gerri have other things to worry about, so they should appoint moderators, IMO.

That, and everyone needs to quit acting like one simple thing means the end of the world.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

It is TRUE,  Ken and Gerri would never bully anyone in the forums.  They are EXTREMELY professional.  People are not saying they are the problem either.  Let us be fair, there are a few bad apples that we are talking about.  They do not have the Invelos icon, and they are not employees or moderators of the forums.  They are simply people who believe they know better than everyone else and when they are disagreed with become snarling, name calling beasts.  If anyone points out there is an issue they defend their reprehensible behavior claiming it is because they are right and everyone else is wrong, and how dare we question their righteousness.  The group is small, but they do make things difficult for everyone else who wants to discuss issues.  So again it is not the employees or the message board volunteers this discussion is about.
