EDIT: To show Duelund that the contribution may not be entirely correct I hinted at the uncredited actors, which are always suspicious if they show up in a new profile.

EDIT AGAIN: Just checked: The Profile definitely is an IMDB-clone. For comparison check here (IMDB) against UPC 5-706102-358975. It's a 100% match and should be completely rebuilt

I have double-checked and triple-checked and apart from the "Uncredited" 'actors', everything is EXCACTLY as listed at the end of the film, including all the "#1"', "#2" etc. - and that goes for Crew as well (maybe a few song writers are missing in the profile).

I have now deleted all the "Uncredited" 'actors' (is actually a lot of well known people 'acting' as them self) from the profile and contributed it for the third time....

EDIT: I just realized that I by mistake mentioned IMDB instead of DVDProfiler, in the contribution notes. No wonder it got declined.... bummer....

If you recognized those people in the movie, you can contribute them as Uncredited specifying in your Contribution Note that you recognized them at minute x second y...

Rerlative to (uncredited) I advise caution. We have been around and around numerous times on this. (uncredited) often times can contain valuable data. I would apply the following procedures to (uncredited). If the release date is prior to July 2005 (the date of the rules) leave them, we had a major discussion with Ken at that time and that was the position he took, after July 2005 I would follow his current comments which tell us that if the data is an EXACT copy of IMDb they CAN be removed. IN either case, if there was data that you think is "valuable" enough to maintain I would look to modify the Role data or even actor name, if practical, to break the connection to IMDb.

I give you an example to encompass both of those
Let's say thay you see
Tommy Cruise as Captan Jonathan R. Smith
so it could be
Tom Cruise as Capt. Smith

For me it look more like IMDB is an exact copy of what is listed at the end of the movie - it is so equal, even the order is exactly the same.

The movie is released in 1992 (the DVD in 2004), so if the contribution is accepted this time, i consider updating it later with the "Uncredited" - I think it's valuable information, people like Muhammad Ali, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King etc.

If the (uncredited) is not there, then document it for inclusion, a time stamp works well.

If you are referring to archive footage which might have those people in it as a general rule of thumb, I don't thin we are including them any longer, if I remember rightly. If not someone will correct me i am sure.

You really have to check the credits.  On occasion IMDB gets it right and simply copies the credits accurately, but you can't assume it.  In fact, I think they try not to do that so they have a copyrightable arrangement of data.

As I mentioned earlier, I have double- and triple-checked the profile against the actual DVD - I hope the contribution is accepted this time - earlier it was declined twice because I by mistake mentioned IMDB in the contribution notes, but the information has always been the same as listed at the end at the movie (apart from "Uncredited" which I now has removed).

A succinct quote from Ken Cole on the subject:

Quoting Ken Cole:
Quote:
Uncredited should only be removed where they are a match with a third party database.  Note that they do not have to be an exact match.  If they are a close match with any third party database, and there is no listed justification, it's safe to remove them.

The "listed justification" is a reference to what you would see (or not see) in the contribution notes for the profile.

Man, you just live to create havoc.<shakes head sadly>

Foir almost three years i have tried very hard to bring order and consistency to this program. And you and a few others have done nothing but desperately look for ways to trip it apart and create chaos and havoc.

That sir, is my viewpoint and my heartfelt opinion and it makes me very sad.

I posted that as a resource for readers of this thread to help bring the discussion back to how the owner of the software sees the situation. My personal opinion is more liberal with uncredited than he allows, but that's irrelevant after his many similar posts on the subject.  We're in a bad spot in this forum if referencing Ken's comments is now seen as malevolent.

Be careful, Voltaire, TV is not necessarily consistent within a Season, let alone across them, we don't necessarily create consistency unless it is something you want to do locally. If the TV show is inconsistent in their data presentation.... which more often than not they are.

Oh, if they change their data presentation I fully agree the Rules say we follow the changes. What I was trying to say is that IF all the seasons just give the actor name (usually in the opening credits) and never the character name I don't like to see Season 1: Detective Sonny Crockett, Season2: Det. Sonny Crockett, Season 3: James 'Sonny' Crockett, Season 4: Det. James 'Sonny' Crockett etc.

I agree with that much too. But there will still be times when it won't be accurate. I am thinking of series where role info can change from season to season for the main cast. For instance in shows like JAG or other military shows the ranks can easily change between seasons... on pretty much any series if a female character marries... her role info can change.

So there is reasons for a role name to change for the main actors between seasons... all depending on the show and what has happened within the season.

And character names can just arbitrarily change after the pilot. For example, in the first episode of Monk, Lt. Randy Disher was listed in the credits as Lt. Deacon.
