I just splurged on this and I have a setup question.

I have a 60G PS3, and a home theater system that I'd like to run through the LCD. The tv has 3 HDMI ports but I want the Samsung to handle all the sound. What do I need to do? This is a little above my head and I hope that some of you HD veterans can give me a hand.

Thanks!

You can run a HDMI cable for video and an optical cable for audio.  I did that without issue.  The PS3 allows you to select different outputs for both video and audio.

If you screw up the video and can't see anything, turn off the PS3 and then turn it on by pressing the power button but hold down the power button until it shuts itself off.  That'll reset your video.

Keep in mind that if you go with component video with optical, check your component plug before purchasing.  I bought one and it turned out that the plug is big enough to actually block the optical output.  Talk about poor design.

Yes,  only problem is that you always have to switch soundsources manually on your Samsung whenever you change the video source. The only way to get around this is an AV-Receiver with HDMI-In (best 2x).
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Or a remote like the Harmony that changes both for you.

Ok, I tried to find an optical cable last night but, since I live in the armpit of the south, no go. I'll have to check a local audio store later today.

The "kid" at Wally world tried to help, he really did. But he confused me even more, I have to confess. He was asking me about the connections on the Samsung unit. I told him what I could remember, like the HDMI out, the optical, the component and digital out... He told me I could try a Coaxial Digital Audio cable, which I bought, run that from the DTV DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT on the LCD to the back of the HT unit. But when I got home, I couldn't find the corresponding color on the sound system.

So, now what?

Sorry to be such a pain, too many connections for my little head....

Armpit of the South?  Montgomery, AL?

The PS3 doesn't have a Coaxial output.  You need an optical cable.

No, Harrison, Arkansas. Trust me, it's worse than Montgomery.

I'll head to our local Radio Shack and see if I can find an optical cable. And I guess I'll need component cables between the TV and the sound system, right?

From what you said in your initial post, you were going to use an HDMI cable from your PS3 directly to your TV.

However, if you want to use your receiver for everything and it has componant video and optical audio inputs, yes - you can go that route.  That's what I'm currently doing now.

Ok, HDMI from the PS3, with optical to the HTS works great. But I don't think I'm getting my full 720 res from the HTS to the LCD. The HTS has an HDMI out. If I ran another HDMI cable from that to the TV's other HDMI port, would that help and would it eliminate the need for component cables?

Check your video configuration on your PS3, it may not be set up to display in 1080 resolution.  If it's not, you'll know it once you set it up to display in 1080, it's hard to miss.  Also make sure your TV can support 1080 - some HD TV's only go up to 720.  If your TV supports 1080, check to see if it supports 1080p or just 1080i.  If it doesn't support 1080p, don't select it or you will get a blank screen.  If you get a blank screen while testing video resolutions, simply wait and the PS3 will reset it back.

Your HTS has an HDMI out?  I thought it didn't thus the need for two cables.  If it has an HDMI in, just use an HDMI cable only, no optical. HDMI cables can carry both high definition audio and video.

The PS3 and LCD are getting along just fine, 720 res and all. I can sit and stare at the DMC4 demo screen for hours.

I wondered about the HDMI out and finally my brain caught up and I thought I could use it between the TV and HTS. I think once I get that connection set, I'll see 720 between the two.

Thank you all again for all the help.
