If a movie is out on multiple versions, but one version has the production year wrong for instance. If someone corrects this what happens to the links. Does that profile get the links that are on the profiles that were already correct? Do the other titles get the links that this profile has? What if they both already have a link (but put by different people) who takes ownership of it?

obviously I'm talking about links that are not profile specific

The attach occurs at link assignment time so the links all stay as they are.

So if a new DVD is released of a movie that already exists (with links) in the database, it will start out blank without any links attached to it?

Ken, why is this the case?  (If it's not an inherent shortcoming of the system, but a choice) surely it would be better to have the links become attached.  US R1 is one of the most active localities, and also one which tends to get releases earlier than other areas.  What will end up happening under this system is a whole heap of links will get submitted on release, then everyone else will have to do the same leg-work again if/when their locality gets a release.

I've adjusted this behavior.  Now when a new DVD is added, the system will identify a matching profile by title/production year/locality and assign links as appropriate, linking only those that were assigned by title/production year by the submitter.  In other words, exact match links will not be copied as they are not guaranteed to be applicable to the new profile.

Hmm that sounds more complicated than it is.  Bottom line, newly accepted profiles will now be "primed" by assigning appropriate matching links.

Thank you, that should eliminate a lot of redundant link entry on new profiles.

I realize it could get messy if this same behavior is applied to profiles that the production year (or title) changes. but this could happen because new profiles don't always have production year or an original title. I just submitted a correction to a profile (Dangerous Minds) because the production year was 1997 and should be 1995. I am holding off on putting links on this because if there are other releases out there they should be joined up. I also wonder if the reverse is true. if I did add links while it was 1997 and then it gets changed to 1995 does that disconnect the links from any profiles that may still have a wrong production year?

Not trying to be a pain, just trying to see how its going to work down the line (and behind the scenes, its the programmer in me ). If a link is red arrowed and it was added by title/production year does that effect all the profiles or just the one it was red arrowed on? And I just noticed you said locality, does that mean if you link something by title/production year its only for profiles in the same locality?

Links are not unlinked by changes to the production year.  Red arrows affect only that specific profile.
