1. a regular "Two-Disc Special Edition"
2. The Optimus Prime Transforming Case edition
3. Soon to be released Megatron Transforming Case edition.
Right now all of them show up as just "Two-Disc Special Edition" and you'd have to either know the UPC# you're looking for or preview each "Two-Disc Special Edition"s listed.
From the rules.
Edition
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition). It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.
So would it be ok to add something for the transforming cases to distinguish them not only from each other, but also the regular two-disc special edition?
Perhaps something like "Two-Disc Special Edition Optimus Prime Case" & "Two-Disc Special Edition Megatron Case" |

| | Posted: | | | | The question is simple, Cubby. I certainly hope that each edition will get it's own UPC#, if not then the Edition info will have to become local. The ONLY data relevant to the ONLINE is the data from the iniytial release.
In short, if they release more versions using the same UPC as the Original release, then the data remains local.

| | Posted: | | | | Just to clarify, that rule has nothing to do with DVDs that have the same UPC; the only way you have multiple profiles under the same UPC is when there are different localities, and the edition field isn't needed to differentiate between those. The rules is to differentiate between multiple releases of the same movie in the same locality, which will certainly have different UPCs; re-releases under an existing UPC cannot be entered into the DB at this time at all, so aren't a factor in this.
As to this particular example, the only way specified in the rule to add a custom description for the O.P. or Megatron editions is if such a descriptor is present somewhere on the packaging ("Limited Edition transforming packaging" or some such might be present); elsewise probably best to leave it just as Two-Disc Special Edition or whathaveyou. |

Cubby, I think the bolded part is going to hang you up with any attempts to change the Editions unless it's written on the box or slipcover. I think the "ensure it will help distinguish between different releases" should be the most important part of the rule, but I can see the problem if the "take it from the DVD box" part was taken out. That leaves it too open to intepretation and there will be ping-pongs trying to make it, for example "Two-Disc Special Edition Optimus Prime Case", wait no, I like "Optimus Prime Two-Disc Special Edition" no, let's make it "Two-Disc Optimus Prime Special Edition", etc, etc. It would be never-ending. The voting and screeners, I hope, would prevent the majority of the non-sense getting into the DB, but I don't want to have to vote on 50 attempted Edition changes every day. Personally I agree with the idea behind your post and wish we could better differentiate certain Editions so it was easier to do title searches and not have to preview 6 different releases trying to find the one I want.
