So, if someone adds an "unmarked" Easter Egg for a Toshiba player and I try it on my PS3 and find it's not working, then I would contribute this as not working. Ping Pong ensues.

Again, this is not a "player specific" easter egg.  It's an easter egg on the disc.  Whether someone's player allows you to press numeric digits from the main menu or not does not mean the easter egg does not exist on the disc.  It's there whether you're able to access it or not from your player.  We're profiling the discs and what's on them.  Why concern ourselves with players that allow it or not?

Okay, another example.  A disc has a 7.1 DTS-MA soundtrack.  What if you're player can't decode that internally but someone's newer model can?  Do you vote No because you're player can't do it?  How is this different?

...if the Easter Egg itself is Sony-only, then it should be marked as such.

It's only available on Sony production discs, but that has nothing to do with the hardware.

Because we otherwise cannot remove wrong Easter Eggs? Those that are fake? We could no longer do that at all because it could just be that our player doesn't play that egg, but another one might.

you have the forum, if you doubt an easter egg. If you're player is not up to the specs for required easter egg: to bad, you lost

IMO If something is listed on the cover or inlay including directions how to access it, it can't be an Easter egg in the first place.

My point to this was yes the easter egg works only on some players. Because it only works on Sony and Samsung maybe some others, it should state that in the easter egg section of DVD Profiler.

I tend to agree with this, but the rules state it only has to be something that's not accessible from an obvious menu option.  Personally I think it should go under Other Features since it's not your typical Easter Egg and more of a tool.  But since it's described in an insert, it's not technically part of the disc's menu options so it falls under the Easter Egg section.

I understand the point, but I think it's unrealistic.  How is a contributer who is submitting an easter egg supposed to know whether it works on one player versus another?  You're saying it works on Sony and Samsung, but only because it worked on his particular model of Sony and my particular model of Samsung.  For all we know it won't work on a different model Samsung.  Or maybe it does work on a different model Panasonic then the one you (or others) have.

More importantly, Panasonic may produce a model tomorrow in which it does work.  It would be a fool's errand to start listing all the hardware that may or may not cooperate with a particular profile on a per profile basis.  Every time a new player was released, we'd have to go back and update all the profiles.

no matter to me since I don't have none of these discs but...

why not just put a line in that states something like...

"This Easter Egg is not viewable with all Players, but is verified as being on the disc".

And leave it at that... this way it is noted so no one ping-pong contributions... and you don't have to worry about keeping a list of players.

How about this: Only works with some players. Press 7669 and Enter on the remote and you should get test patterns to calibrate your HDTV.

I was not suggesting to list all the player but something needed to be stated in the Easter Egg field so someone else does not try to delete the info because they can not get it to work and think it was bad data. There is a way to word it so people know it works but it may not on their player.

Just a quick thought:

if the instructions for accessing this option are given by the production company in the tri-fold booklet, is this still an easter egg?

IMO those are menu options NOT mentioned on any official booklets or such regarding the specific DVD-release.

I'd enter it under "other feature" and append "See booklet for instructions".

There is a hidden easter egg in Sony Blu-ray movies

Also, every Blu-ray disc from Sony has several patterns that are hidden, Easter Egg style, in the opening disc menu. While the menu is on screen, simply push 7669 (which spells S-O-N-Y on your telephone!). There's a color bar pattern, a pattern with a variety of resolution checks, red, green, and blue full-screen patterns, a crosshatch pattern, a color sweep pattern, and a gray ramp.
