Edit: referring to Skip's post. It may have confused you because he's used a forum shorthand which you may not be familiar with. When we talk about name parsing we normally write:
first name / middle name / last name so people know what goes in which field.
So when he says Leonardo//DiCaprio, he means Leonardo (first name) / (no middle name) / DiCaprio (last name).
Hope this helps!

Kamfer's question was about improper name parsing [Leonardo/DiCaprio/(no last name)] but Skip's comment was meant to point out that there may be times when he's credited as Leonardo // DiCaprio or Leonardo // Di Caprio.  Good answer, just not for the question Kamfer asked.

And considering that this isn't exactly a recent release that no one noticed the bad cast list.

I tend to whip out my iPhone and pull up the movie through my RSS feed for phpDVDProfiler and validate the cast listing that way - but it doesn't distinguish between first/middle/last in it's listing.

Just to show that not every method to validate cast listings will make that evident.

Yes, Kamfer's question was about improper parsing and Skip's response was to simply say Leonardo//DiCaprio then go on about DiCaprio v Di Caprio. It was fair to assume that Kamfer was confused by the Leonardo//DiCaprio comment so I simply clarified. Seeing how Kamfer's problem was that the name was incorrectly parsed, I don't understand how this didn't answer his question?

Wrong yet again, north. kamfers seems to be claiming that DiCaprio is a middle name and i told him that for profiler purposes it is //DiCaprio. I metioned Di Caprio in passing because it is probably out there. Man oh man, when you don't get it, just chime in any way. He additionally referred to alias system and I pointed out that if all were done CORRECTLY as //DiCaprio, then they will all be linked, save for the oddity which must be linked.

Now let's move on to the specifics. Kamfers seems to CLAIM that DiCaprio is a middle name. based on the data ON SCREEN I want to know how he can determine that to be true, dartboards, ouija boards, crystal balls. As always based soley on the data as presented it would Leonardo//DiCaprio. Unless you are perhaps able to prove otherwise. And i have not see an evidence of that prove aside from a claim. OR is he saying that DiCaprio has been inadvertently entered into a middle name slot, in which case it is simply an error that needs to be addressed.

What are you on about now? Kamfer made no such claim!
His problem was simply that someone had accidentally put DiCaprio in the middle name field and he wanted to know if he could submit the fix or if his changes had to be more substantial to qualify for a submission.
How you managed to twist this into what you're stating now is anyone's guess! For someone who accuses me of not getting it, you really need to look at what you write sometimes!

He was stating that it was an error and that DiCaprio had been entered into the middle field. He then asked if it was ok just to correct this single error.

Now I know why you answered as you did. And as I said, it was a good answer just not to the question Kamfer asked -- as North and Paul rightly point out.  Sometimes I get confused when I read what someone has posted, but if it's explained to me I usually don't act as if I was right in the first place.  You seem to be the only one posting in this thread who doesn't understand Kamfer's question.  Oh well, when that happens to me it's usually due to me having a Senior Moment.

LOL, Ken you and the others also had some advantage that i didn't since i answered him first. people really do need to try and understand context. Based on his initial post that was reasonable, and as I noted yes it's possible that he had another thought in mind but his initial comment wasn't clear on that. As for anything else i won't say what I am thniking.

You may have answered him first, but you still have to read what he asked not read something INTO what he asked.

What Kamper meant seemed pretty clear to me and the contect he was referring to was an error in the profile, not that he thought DiCaprio was a middle name.  In fact, what he said was:

Quote:
In this particular case Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't have a last name, DiCaprio is listed as his middle name.

That seemed pretty clear to me that he was looking at a profile where DiCaprio was i"listed as his middle name" not that he thought it SHOULD BE shown as his middle name.  Kamfer wanted to know if he could contribute a correction to this error if it were the only change he wanted to make.

It may have been to YOU, it wasn't to me. Thus the initial answer.

I never thought he hinted or otherwise said that it should be his middle name, my understanding was fully on that he wanted to correct it to reflect "DiCaprio" as his last name.

Well. Now I have tried to change things. But it is clearly over my level of expertise, because I don't understand how I can change it. I find the place where I can change things, but there is nothing to indicate what is first, last or middle name. So I've decided to post the number, and maybe some of you can fix it. And I can try something else for my first contribution.
