I recently contributed a cover scan for the US blu-ray edition of The Proposition (687797112163). My cover scan is (in my opinion) far better than the one in the database since it is closer to the color of the real cover (the already existing scan is way too pale) and better cropped. However, the contribution got declined. It got 4 yes votes and 1 no with the reason that the cover was too yellow. I don't see that, and apparently 4 other users haven't seen that problem either. I have now tried to tweek the scan a bit (to make it less yellow) and contribute it again, and the user who voted no earlier has again voted no with the same reason as before. Therefore, my question is: How high a percentage of 'no'-votes must a contribution get to be declined?

FYI: Here are the scans I'm talking about:

There's no hard and fast rule concerning declines, each instance is decided upon by a screener, based on their take on the submission, and taking into account all votes. Even if the vote was 100:1, if that one negative was an important enough reason, the screener might still decline on that sole basis. I've had that time and again, but I've also had submissions go through that were 2:1 against, since the reasons were pretty flimsy and biased. As for this particular submission, I don't own the title so I couldn't vouch for the colour, but I'd vote for it on the simple basis that you've bothered to take the cover out of the sleeve!

I agree. And if you mention that fact in your contribution notes, the chances to get it accepted even with no votes is much higher.

And make it easy for the screeners; point out where the reflections can be seen on the existing scans.

Are there really people out there, which don´t take the cover out of the sleeve? I´ve never seen that in DVDP.

If it were up to me, neither of those images should be in the database .

The First set's color is off, poorly cropped and it looks like it's still in the packaging because of the glare on the front.

The second set's front image is chalk-full of dust and scratches and the rear image looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa...it's so crooked.

I put some phone diretories on the scanner cover to press the dvd cover to the scanner glassplate. What we all do to improve or scans
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

I do the same thing...well, not phone directories . I have a piece of heavy-guage cardboard cut to the scanner bed size which I place over the keepcase covers then place a heavy book on top of that to keep the image as flat as possible on the scanner bed. I then cover the scanner with a black cloth to keep exterior light out and scan away. Works very well.

Oh yeah, definitely. It was a particularly huge problem in hi-def scans when people kept putting the case banners in the scans, so as to save themselves steps. Nowaways it's only as common as it is with regular DVD profiles, only occasional.

I agrre with 8Balls assessment. Remember that there is NOTHING objective about  images, so it may help you to describe the differences as you see them . Your front is better cropped. So, clean it up and straighten the back.

I put things on top of the cover to press it against the scanner bed also. But the tip with the cloth to block exterior light is something I hadn't thought about.

BRILLIANT!

Agreed with Max.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Blocking exterior light is very critical as it affects the levels while scanning . I do the same thing when scanning DVDs with Slip Covers. I'll place a heavy book on top of the Slip Cover and cover the scanner with the black cloth. When doing Slip Covers I also ensure to remove the outer shrink wrap from the DVD case in order to get a better image of the UPC label.

Almost the same here:

Cover on the scanner, white DIN A4(Letter) paper over it. At covers with most dark or black colors, it´s helpful to find the edges.
Then comes my big fat Commodore 64 manual, with 3000 pages on it.
Now i don´t use black clothes but a big packaging carton, which fits perfectly over my scanner.
The results are very satisfying for my 1€ ebay USB-Scanner with no external power supply.

Ahhh...good point kenny...forgot that. I also use a white sheet for the darker covers so it's easier to find the edges .

3000 pages !!! . I try not to put that much weight on the scanner bed...crack goes the weasle .
