Hello!

My contribution of the german DVD "8 Blickwinkel - 2 Disc Collector's Edition" has been declined. It is the Amazon exclusive version.
I don't understand the reason why it is declined. It says: "An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules."
What is meant with a "third" party database? I took the infos from the cover and the data to the cast from www.ofdb.de. This is what I also noticed in my contribution.

Greetings
Birgit

ofdb,de would be a third party database.

Per rules you are only allowed to take cast and crew credits from the actual credits on the screen. Other then uncredited cast which you need to document well that they are in the show.... more then one source. And no uncredited crew allowed what so ever.

The only valid source for cast and crew is the movie credits.

With third party database, they mean a database that isn't owned by you or Invelos. ofdb.de is such a third party database.

A third party database is anything but the disc itself, hence the reason it was declined. You need to copy (or at least visually verify) that the cast is correct (ie. matches the on-screen credits) and state this in your contribution notes.

You answered your own question.  (www.ofdb.de)

A 3rd party database is anything besides the DVD and accompanying materials.  Submitted material, especially cast & crew, should be taken from the DVD itself.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

That's because we're not allowed to use 3rd party databases for information that we can get from the DVD. And www.ofdb.de is a 3rd party database. The cast must come from the DVD itself.
That's probably why it's been declined.

Check what you have against the end credits of the actual film and make any necessary adjustments. If what you have matches the end credits exactly, then resubmit and say in your notes that the cast have been checked against the actual DVD.

Yepp, there we have the problem.
Contributable and valid data for DVDProfiler is only the DVD itself. Means: you'd have to watch the endcredits and give as a source the DVD itself.
The other possibility is (for new profiles) to copy the data of an alredy accepted profile and give as a source the UPC of the already accepted profile.

All other sources like ofdb, imdb, etc. are invalid for legal (copyright) and other reasons.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Third party database is everything which is not Invelos or yourself (with the disc in your hand). That means www.ofdb.de is a third party database. In this is why it was declined. According to contribution rules, the cast must come from the credits of the movie.

Thank you for your answers. My English is not so good that I understood what is meant with the "third party database".
But now I understand it and will check the cast and send a new contribution.

Apologies, I never noticed that part of the post. Good eyes, Tom.

Just to try and expand on Tom's post:

1st party is something that was directly involved with the film. So the contents of the DVD is 1st party.

2nd party is something that wasn't directly involved, but is still connected to the film. So films studios, distributors, making of featurettes can all be classed as 2nd party.

3rd party is something that has had no involvement with the film. So things like film databases, online shops, film reviews are all 3rd party.

When looking for sources of info for your profile, always go for 1st party, then only if that doesn't contain the info you need, go for 2nd party. And only when that fails can you go to 3rd party, but you must list a few different matching sources before this info will be accepted.

Hope this helps.

Just out of curiosity from a non-native English speaker:
I always thought, that when dealing with software (like DVD Profiler), the first party is the developer/company which programmed the software. The second party is the user of the software. And third party is everything else like other websites. Isn't it so?
