Making this name/XY/name or name/X. Y./name is personal preference.

No, it's not. If you enter a name like "X./Y./name", the program itself adds a space between the initials and that doesn't have to be your preference.

don't change the subject.
if you enter "name /name /name " in the program all trailing spaces are removed from the fields.
If you enter X.Y. in a field no space is added, If "X. Y." is in a field, this is put there by a user, again that would be personal preference, mainly if the space would not be in the movie credits.

Yes, the space is entered by a user and that's the proper way to seperate initials with a full stop.

That is what you are saying, both systems are in use. However that is not the case here:
List names exactly as they are in the credits when you add a space to the initials or remove the full stops, it looks to me you're not listing the credit as they are in the credits. If you find a credit not in line with the online name:
To determine whether to enter the name directly as credited, or to use the "Credited As" field, use the Credit Lookup tool.

Spaces aren't names. If the credits read "Samuel L.Jackson" and I parse "Samuel/L./Jackson" the program also adds a space between the middle and last name as it should. Utilizing the credited as field to replicate the exact appearance of the name is not necessary and just plain insane if you ask me.

The program does not add extra spaces in the name fields as you do. If the Credit say's:
Aaaa X.Y. Bbbbb don't credit Aaaa X. Y. Bbbbb. It is insane to create credits with extra spaces if those are not there. Why would you try to mimic spaces Between names:
if you credit "Gerri Cole" the credit is:
"Gerri"
"Cole"
and not
"Gerri "
"Cole "
and if you try to do so, the program will not allow you to do this.

I'm not creating credits, I'm only parsing names as they need to be parsed.

Not quite correct,
correct would have been: [...] as I want them to be parsed.
For explanation: There is no grammatical rule to be found that says that you'd have to enter a blank between two initials.
So what you're talking about is personal preference not parsing, or even entering as credited.

This would be quite OK if you keep your data local, trying to upload this data violates the rules mentionend by Giga.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The program adds spaces between initials and so do I. I'm just adapting to a silent rule.

Wrong again, the program adds spaces between first-, middle- and lastname. This is not specific for initials, this is the default setting for better readability. If you would enter the initials just in the firstname field (e.g. J.K./ / Simmons) no blank would be added. On the contrary, if you would enter an additional blank as in J.[blank]/K.[blank]/Simmons you'd get J.[blank][blank]K.[blank][blank]Simmons printed.
If you don't think that's weird I can't help you.

Unless I am completely mistaken, the program does NOT add spaces to the name field VALUES.  However, when the results are DISPLAYED, a space is added between and to separate the name fields IN THE DISPLAY ONLY.

Example:
J./D./Cannon  <== would be shown as "J. D. Cannon"
J.D.//Cannon  <== would be shown as "J.D. Cannon"

Using Martin's example, if the credit was:
"Samuel L.Jackson"  (no space after the L.)
I would show this as :
    Samuel/L./Jackson [Samuel L.Jackson]

So, in a sense both sides are correct.

Using the "Credited As" field for this purpose is just crazy, IMHO!

sorry Dady DVD, profile contribution has been accepted: Aaaa/X.Y./Bbbb is in, Aaaa/X. Y./Bbbb is out., As it was in the movie credits and what the CLT told me to.

If the data is inputed in the system as:
1st data field: Samuel
2nd data field: L.
3rd data field: Jackson
This is not word processing but data processing (hence the online DataBase) it will be shown as [Samuel L. Jackson] and not [Samuel L.Jackson]
you can not enter spaces after names, those are automaticly cut off. Try it out: Create a new cast or crew member, enter the names with trailing spaces, save the changes and go back in edit mode and see if you find the trailing spaces back, you have put there, there gone.

Thank you.

I know it's crazy, Hal and Daddy, and I never said I liked it.  But if the actual credit was "Samuel L.Jackson" and there's no space before Jackson (as in the cited example which I have not personally ever seen), I'm just following the rules.  "Samuel L. Jackson" (correct IMO) would NOT be strictly "As Credited" in this case.  And we're told that the rules tell us to show the credit exactly as on screen, typos and all.
