I have been messing around with this for awhile, so I thought I would share and solicit ideas and other experiences.

For years now I have been using dual Linksys WRTG45S routers with custom Sveasoft software configured for WDS mode (LAN bridge). This has worked for wireless / seamless media sharing between two HTPCs (up/down stairs) as though they were wired on the same switch, and also gave me two wireless access points for laptops roaming aound the house.

Along comes HD content, and all heck breaks loose. Stuttering and generally unsatisfactory streaming of any hi-res / hi-datarate content.

After some experimentation, I have just installed and in the process of tweaking what may be a suitable solution.

I have two Netgear WNDR3300 wireless-N dual band routers configured as follows:

- One in Master mode, dual band (up to) 270mbps at 5GHZ (bridge) and (up to) 54mbps at 2.4 GHZ (wireless AP)
- One in repeater mode, resulting in a wireless bridge between the two HTPCs

This also gives me two physically separate wireless-G access points, and two separate wireless-N access points. Each box has a 4-port switch to connect wired devices. They come pre-configured for multimedia QoS  , and you can also set QoS by MAC address, so I set the two HTPCs for "Highest", and observed a great difference.

So far, best I have done is relatively long running stutter free (hiccup maybe once every 5 min or so) streaming of 1080i mpeg/ ts streams at up to 20 mbps. I have not yet tried streaming a Blu-Ray yet - but that's next.

By the way, I don't work for Netgear, and I'm sure that other brands and configurations work. In fact, I'm hoping that others will share what has worked for them.

(Once the network works smoothly for me, I will be working on streaming options for LoadDVD - heh, heh).

I am also interested in any wireless HDMI/Component experiences (if there is another thread, just point me to it - thanks).
Thanks for your support.
