IMDB Synopsis:
Quote:

I absolutely LOVE this film. OK, so the story is your usual buddy comedy stopping criminals but this does it with so much flair and style it makes it an essential viewing. The chases are fantastic, the stunts unbelievable and the short sharp comedy wit hilarious. The cast is also perfect, from Samy Naceri as the speedfreak taxi driver, to (briefly nude) Marion Cotillard as his girlfriend. Great fun and the sequels (well, at least 2-3, not seen 4 yet) are worth a look aswell. Unfortunately, the Queen Latifah remake is only worth a rent.

I agree, the first one is absolutely fantastic. 2 and 3 are worth a watch, but never reach the level of the original. Haven't seen 4 either. The Queen Latifah remake is only good for completists. Get it if you find it in the 5$ bin, otherwise don't bother.

Taxi was awesome. 2nd and 3rd felt a bit like a cash-in but still fun to watch if they happen to be on TV.
The US remake ... well

Actually, for some reason the first Taxi makes me think of the movie The Transporter.

They were both written and produced by Luc Besson and IMO, you can definatelty see his style/influence in both.

If you liked Taxi i'd also recommend Yamakasi,
Wasabi and
Banlieu-13. All having the same vibe i got from Taxi, Not all master peices but enjoyable action/comedies.

Yeah, speaking of which, I watched From Paris with Love yesterday and there too, even though he's only the writer/producer and not the director, I could feel Luc Besson's hand in it. Gotta say, his movies are not necessarily masterpiece but they always keep the action junkie inside me entertained.

Reno is fantastic in Wasabi. Love that. Also really enjoyed both of the District 13 movies. Third that one.

Add me to the list for Banlieu 13. The sequel wasn't bad, but it didn't have the same power the first one had.

Hmm, I've never seen Banlieu 13. Maybe I should give it a try. I used to live an work in Paris for a short time, so I'd be interested to see his take on a futuristic version of Paris' outskirts.
