Like most, I jumped on DVD Profiler for my iPhone as soon as I saw it was available (have been checking every few days for QUITE some time now).  I got home today and downloaded it, updated my desktop version and went to setup sharing (I want to be able to update my collection from anywhere via my iPhone).

So, I check the boxes for sharing the collection (leaving the default port at 32847), put passwords on both view and change access and select "any computer" for the access.  The test repeatedly fails, but doesn't provide me with any steps to correcting the problem.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and have a Netgear WNDR3700 (Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless N Router).  It runs both a 5 ghz and 2.4 ghz private and guest network (so 4 networks at once).

Do I need to setup port forwarding or something?  Anything to point me in the right direction would be a huge help.  Thanks in advance.

Port forwarding will most likely help. It certainly worked for me. If you are trying to connect using the computer name, try it with the IP instead.

Thanks for the response.

I have port forwarding now turned on for the PC IP, and the default port from the DVD profiler.  I changed the setting in the PC software to any computer.

I turned off the wi-fi on my iPhone so the connection would be 3G and when I hit the update collection option in the app, it was unable to connect.

My app connection settings have the PCs IP entered in for the Host, the default port and the 'change level' access password is filled in.

Click the 'Test' button under Tools->Options->Sharing.  Does the test return success? If so, use the IP shown in that window to connect over 3G.

nope, the test always says unable to connect....both with the port forwarding turned on or off

First task is to get that test to succeed.  It could be blocked by a software firewall or by your router.  If you believe your router is set up properly, try temporarily disabling your software firewall.

I am having the same problems. Everytime the test doesn't work.
I always get the message:

Unable to connect.

Your collection is not accessible from the Internet.

Please check the configuration of your local firewall and/or router and try again.

The problem hasn't anything to do with my firewall I think, because I granted acces to Profiler.

I have a router but I don't know anything about setting that thing up.

I am also having the same issue.  Having sharing set up with default port and passwords for both view and change acces. I only get the test button when selecting Any Computer.  If I only want to access thru My Network, no test button.  I tried using the IP address in the status bar in DVD Profiler and also the one when selecting Any Computer and testing the connection.  Neither allows me to connect from my iPad.

Windows Firewall is set to allow DVD Profiler and I have no trouble syncing other iPad apps with my computer.

Any help would be great.

Same problem here.  I have DVD Profiler 3 listed as an exception to my firewall, and also added an exception for the default port.  Tried with and without password, and the Invelos servers are unable to connect.  The main test button on the online page works fine, though.

I wouldn't have the first idea of what to change on the router.  Some help here, please?

UPDATE:  I tried ignoring the test and just connecting the iPhone version using the host number stated at the bottom of  DVD Profiler.  When I try to update the database it changes to "1 connected" at the bottom of DVD Profiler, but doesn't actually read the database or connect.  While I'm doing this, DVD Profiler uses 80-82% of my physical memory (4 GB of RAM).  Very odd.

Shut off the firewall altogether and still couldn't connect.  I ran into something like this once before when I tried to set up an access point; the router isn't capable of doing something that I've forgotten.  So I am guessing that it just can't be done.  Crap.

Every router is different.  This might help: http://portforward.com/. Just look for your router model. There probably won't be a guide for DVD Profiler, but you should get an idea how to open the port on your router.

I'm fairly proficient at port forwarding (I have it setup for remote viewing of my slingbox), but I can't get it to work for my DVD profiler

Same issues. Been waiting for this app for years and downloaded tonight. Can't get it to connect to my MacBook Pro.  I run Profiler 3.7.1 through Parallels and have tried turning off ALL my security (Windows Firewall, Kaspersky Firewall (in Parallels), and the firewall in my Belkin N+ Router) but get the same 'unable to connect' message.  The version of the App is 1.0.1. Really disappointed, it shouldn't be this difficult, I have many apps which sync to my Macbook via my wireless network.  I've followed the guidance notes to the letter and have ruled out any security issues by disabling them all to at least narrow down to source of the issue.  All to no avail. 

There is most definitely an issue.  I also can't recognise the I.P address which it quotes at the bottom of the profiler screen, this is a different address than the one quoted when i click on 'test' and it tells me it is unable to connect. I don't know if this is any indication of the problem.

Please help, I've waiting too long to have to now write this off (and loose £5+).

Just tried to setup access from outside of my private LAN a few days ago. Only thing I had to do was adding a port forward in the router. No probs at all.

For those who have turned off all firewalls and still no luck? Check of your router seperates its LAN from its WIFI... It has occured that routers do not allow wireless devices to see the wired devices.

For those with a MAC and using a windows-'simulator', there is atleast one thread explaining something about using the correct network controller. I do not use this so forgive me for being superficial about this one, but I think there was a problem with a default wireless controller i.s.o. using the Mac's wired controller or something alike...

Izo, you are a star!  Thanks for the post thread (MAC Problems Connecting), it would appear the culprit for me also was using a shared connection in Parallels 6 rather than a bridged connection.  Now working wonderfully    Interestingly, when I tried the 'test' facility, it was still showing 'unable to connect' but more noticeably, when I changed the connection to bridged, I recognised the IP Address where as beforehand, I did not.

Once again, many thanks and I hope this solution works for others experiencing problems.

izo, I bet it is wireless/wired. obviously my iPhone is wireless. my desktop is wired running DVD profiler 3.7.1

any ideas how to make them see each other on my netgear WNDR3700?
