Is there a plug in that Im missing to allow windows media center to run with my dvd profiler?  WMC works with media browser and mymovies programs, but I cant seem to get it to work with the dvd profiler.  I would so much rather have dvd profiler list my media within the media center for playback, but since I cant seem to get it to, I have to use other programs which leaves me wondering why bother using the dvd profiler anymore?  It makes it like dvd profiler is a duplicate so why not just use the others?

I hope someone has a plug in to use, I really would rather use the dvd profiler.  But Im no techie, if it cant be installed and run without much set up or coding, I cant do it.

Restless.....I thoroughly agree....

I've been a customer/subscriber and big fan of DVDpro for a long while now....and I am thinking the same....I'm on the cusp of building an HTPC, using WMC, and want to use my DVDpro database to control the WMC movies.....but can't see how to anywhere????

Whereas Mymovies used to import a DVDpro collection.xml.....it now no longer does, as it's set istelf up in direct competition to the app of DVDpro.....

DVDpro needs to write a plug in for WMC to avoid losing all it's customers to Mymovies !!!

Come on DVDpro.....please comment on Restless' request.....

I can't belive nobody has answered this post since June 2011 !!!

Wow ... I didn't realize that.

There are two easy things that can be done, but I doubt that they are what you want:
(1) Small WMC app that basically launches DVD Profiler
(2) Small WMC app that embeds your Online Collection on a menu inside WMC

But what you really want requires that somebody basically rewrite DVD Profiler to be a WMC app. Only Invelos can do that - anything else would be a competitor. A plugin does not have the power to do what you want (I looked into it a while back), but then I am not the best plugin writer. Maybe somebody else could do it ...

Hi mediadogg

Thanks for the reply.....
Yeah, they are trying to get people to defect across to them....and to be honest....I can see a lot of people might if the DVDpro writers don't get in gear & write a WMC app/plugin.....I would think a lot of people who use DVDPro use a media center, or would like to, and from what I've seen whilst investigating my plans.....it seems that Windows7, with WMC, and Mymovies, or Boxee  is the way to go....as DVDPro...are not in this marketplace....they are going to loose current...and many future customers I reckon.....

I would think it's worth their while doing this to avoid losing the market...I think DVDPro is the BEST cataloging software out there....and I LOVE it....but if I want to integrate it...I can't....and other apps can....so what does one do???  Move to Mymovies !!!!!! for shame.

I guess a mixture of or both option 1 &  2 you mention would be a pretty good workaround for now....

can you tell me how one or both could be achieved??

I did try your load dvd plug in a couple of days ago...and couldn't get it working.....

but if I can get that going, then I guess I could work something out, without defecting to mymovies from my beloved DVDpro app

Ok, I will update this post later when I find those old forum entries.

Ok, here is the post for Running Online Collection from MCE Icon.  I have not chedcked to see whether this method still works in Windows 7.

Meanwhile, go ahead and post in the Plugins Forum, LoadDVD thread, what problems you had - what did you do or try, and what was the result? I think there are LOTs of people that have it woking. A little patience and you will also.
Thanks for your support.

A few years ago now I put together a relatively simple DVD Profiler plugin that essentially automates the creation of the .dvdid.xml files and artwork images in a format that WMC likes. I think I remember posting at the time that I could spend a little time to polish it for general consumption if there was enough interest, and I don't remember there being much

With the advent of services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc, I find that I don't bother to rip and store content on my network all that much these days, so I haven't really kept up with new DVD Profiler releases, but if there's more interest now I could try to dust off the plugin or hand it over to someone else.

The basic idea was that for each title in your DVD Profiler library, you could declare where on disk (or network share) the ripped files exist, and the plugin would maintain a separate database of this info. When you hit the "Sync" button in the plugin panel, it would generate the appropriate disc metadata and cover art alongside the video files, and publish a shared, top-level index for WMC to consume.

After that all you would need to do is run a script on the WMC machine to symlink the local WMC metadata cache to the shared index. It seemed to work pretty well for my purposes.

wbradney,

If you still have that plugin I would love to test it out! I have a huge library of ripped movies that I stream through my Xbox 360 and having a way to sync up my DVD Profiler database with WMC would be golden. I would be glad to beta test for you or help in any way I can.

Thanks,
Jay
