| Posted: | | | | Does anyone have either release of this film? If so, can you tell me if either one (or which one) is worth picking up? I want to get a copy of the film, but the reviews on Amazon are all over the place about DVD quality. But it seems like the two sets of reviews are mingled together. Anyway, if anyone here has it I'd trust your opinion more anyway, since we're all DVD nuts here. | Posted: | | | | The Day of the Triffids is one of my guilty pleasures. It's not a bad film, but I guess the later versions are more true to the book. The ending feels tacked on, and apparently it is. Still I think you will enjoy it.
I've got a region 2 release, so I can't say anything about the R1 releases. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Looks like the release shown at the top is from Cheezy Flicks. I would definitely avoid that one and go with the Allied Artists release. Everything I've seen from Cheezy Flicks has looked terrible. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Yes, there is an early 80s UK tv movie that was really quite good and quite faithful to the book I've read. It's on DVD. |

I think you mean the 1981 mini-series, although I guess it could have been edited into a movie. There is also a 2009 version. EDIT: It looks like Hollywood has another version lined up for 2013. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Out of the three versions I'd say that the 81 TV series is probably the best and the 2009 mini-series the weakest. The '62 version (with a non-singing Howard Keel) is my favorite, though.
There is one scene in the '62 version where a matte painting becomes painfully obvious, because smoke is disappearing behind what is supposed to be the background.
Guess I'll be getting the 2013 version too, if and when it becomes available. I was under the impression that this was going to be a UK production, too, and not a Hollywood one. But I could be mistaken. And you probably did not mean Hollywood in a literal sense anyway, KinoNiki? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Well, the details are only available on IMDb Pro, but I've read that John Carpenter was going to direct it. No idea if this still stands though. EDIT: This news piece suggests that it will be produced by Sam Raimi. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | I read somewhere that it was going to be produced by the same guy who produced the 2009 mini-series för BBC (which in itself wouldn't be a very good sign) and assumed that it would be made in Britain. But then again there seem to be many rumors flying around... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | The '81 British TV miniseries is the best, hands down. Unfortunately I can't tell you which release of the early sixties film is preferable. Not sure if this R2 release is equal to one of the two you were considering. If so, the review suggests to avoid it. |

| Posted: | | | | DVD Compare comparison for this title. It's worth reading their notes. Sometimes the decision is somewhat arbitrary, and I've found in the past, doesn't necessarily follow the same logic I would have used. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| Posted: | | | | Looking at the info on DVD Compare and reading feedback on Amazon I sadly must conclude that there is no decent release of this film. I withdraw my earlier advice to look for the Allied Artists release. Apparently it is Pan & Scan and even worse than the Cheezy Flicks release. Didn't think that was possible... I wish someone would at least release an anamorphic version. Better still, a remasterd BD version. But the chances of that seem slim. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |
