One often sees posts about people not having BD drives in their computers, or using laptops while watching the movie etc to do their profiles. So I figured I'd start a discussion (and this forum needs a bit of life) about people's setups. You never know, some people might have some nifty tricks to use with their setups.

Personally, my system is built around a Denon AVR-3313 - this thing has 2 (simultaneous) hdmi outs on the main zone and even an extra hdmi out you can assign to zone2 or 3. In my "lounge" I only have a projector, I don't have a tv screen - I've been like this for over 15 years now as I was spoilt in the 90's with one of those Sony 1000 projectors (huge thing) and never used a "tv" since.

Anyway, my work involves around computers, I have a computer room in which one of the monitors I use for watching tv (if I want). I do this by using the 2nd hdmi out of the Denon to the monitor in there and the Denon also has the facility to allow hdmi pass through when the unit is turned off (in standby).

So at any time I can watch whatever from the theatre setup on my monitor in the computer room - cable tv, blu-rays, dvd, media files whatever as all will work via the hdmi pass through.

This makes it easy to scroll through credits, look at the audio formats available etc while sitting at my computer. I of course also have blu-ray/dvd drives in my machines, but generally only use that for disc id's. of course, I do have to get up and walk to put a blu-ray in the player out where the home theatre is, but it's easy to watch stuff from in here. Oh, I have an RF remote repeater in here so every remote works in here just like it does in the main room.

So does anyone else have weird setups they use, or tricks with setups that help them profile discs?

Main Setup:

Screen: Panasonic Viega 50" (Plasma)

This gets it's Video Signals from this HTPC

SoundSystem: Logitech Z906 -THX connected to HTPC via TOS-Link (Optical)

The PC that is used for DVDProfiler has an iHos 104 BluRay ROM with PowerDVD 10 as Player software.
In addition it has 2 23" screens. When auditing profiles one has PowerDVD running full-screen the other has DVDProfiler and IMDB in screen-share.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

All computers in my house are connected by Gigabit LAN, even though I'm not using the capabilities very much. So it boils down to "Basic Networking" in workgroups.

I watch my DVDs on my computer.

I watch my blu-rays on my TV (regular one as I don't have the budget for an HD one).

So I am assuming most of you, if you do wish to, sit there in front of the tv and write down or mark off things for doing your profiles?

No laptops? No funky remote connections to make it easier?

I would assume that most are doing it similar to the method I described. Not necessarily with a dual-monitor setup, but split-screen is possible on a single monitor too.
Pen and Paper noting to transcribe the data to another computer ... I don't hope anyone has to do this. This would be extremely cumbersome.

I bring my laptop to my white screen while doing profiles. I don't have a TV.

I have a LED-TV in my living room, with 3D B-rD player, and media player, WLAN connected, and S2 sat receiver, around a Denon HD receiver, and a newer but smaller LED-TV (47") in the bedroom, with 2D B-rD player, and media player, WLAN connected, and S2 sat receiver, around an older Denon surround receiver (not HD only DD/DTS, no HDMI), I have two computers, with B-rD drives, for Disc-IDs and contributions, and S2 sat cards for tv recordings, in my computer room, WLAN connected, on one 24" monitor and a hifi stereo receiver, my greatest happiness is my DAB+ portable radio for Deutschland Radio Kultur.

You forgot to mention the 65" Plasma in the guest's washing-room.

No, i would have remembered audio-visual equipment in the bathrooms. But if I wanted, I could haul the DAB+ portable radio, with Deutschland Radio Kultur, there.

Enough - I find both of you to be rude and in need of a time out. Why don't you both block one another and stop this nonsense.
