Windows 10 has not been released yet (scheduled for July 29).

I'm still undecided if I even want to upgrade or not. It's free so that's no issue... but is it at least better than Windows 8? I'm still using Windows 7, never wanted 8 and passed on the paid upgrade for that. Now they're giving it away free?

Same here.

Plus I'm a little scared to upgrade the OS. Never done it before and what it something goes wrong or other programs I like aren't compatible.

Microsoft says it's designed to work with the hardware/software you already use... but I highly doubt there won't be some incompatibility issues.

Does anyone know how these upgrades work on clean installs?
I own Windows 7, if i upgrade to 10 and later want to do a clean install, would i first have to install Windows 7 and then upgrade again?

You can do a clean install

Practically, how do you do a clean install of an upgraded system if the SSD breaks down?

I like the idea to finally have the same Windows OS version on all the computers. I like that I have one year to decide about it.

I was bored today. So after the upgrade, I tested Microsoft's official clean install:

Media Creation Tool and Windows 10 ISO download.

It worked. To format C is always exciting.

My banking service uses Active X for their security features, so Edge was a no go. but eventually I learned that IE is actually still installed, just hidden.

Other than that, I have had no issues myself. I selected to keep data and programs during the upgrade, and everything seems to work fine. However, I am only running in a VM and don't use it a lot...

I understand the clean install does not always work right away. Something about obtaining the CD key. You need a Windows 10 key, the Windows 8 key won't work. Si I had to go through the upgrade the first time. At the time at least, they didn't have a website that would convert the keys accordingly, not sure if they have now. (That reminds, me, that I should make a not of my new key, for future reference...)

Either I accidentally upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, or my computer did it without my permission yesterday. Either way, I'm not happy.

In any event, DVD Profiler is now EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW to do anything (kind of like it was before the last major update only worse), e.g. pulling up names of cast and crew in the Edit window. Every letter of the name results in the long-spinning blue circle. Any suggestiions as to how to get it back to its normal zippy speed? I just did a database repair and that didn't help.
