Can any of you good gentlemen (and ladies of course) recommend a good remote hackable Blu-ray player? I understand that any hack will only affect the DVD section but that is what is important to me.

EDIT: Should have mentioned - I am in the UK.

Thanks in advance

The new Sonys can be made region free for DVDs (the BDP-S350 and BDP-S550). You need a One for All remote or similar. (Or maybe you can ask the shop to do it for you - not sure how it works in the UK.)

The Sonys (S350/550) and Panasonics (BDP BD 35/55) can be made Region Free for DVDs with an All4one remote or a Harmony remote, the latter is made available by me at AVForums (I'm "AV Junkie"  there)

He means that he provides details for the Logitech Harmony remotes. I can vouch that they work on the Panasonic Blu-ray players as I used them on my BD-30.

I like the player overall but don't like the remote. It looks like something Fisher Price would make

Hello,

Do you think it's possible to make a R2 DMP-BD30 region free with an Onkyo RC-693M Remote ?

Regards.

Well, you can donate it to me!
I'm planning to purchase either the Sony 350 or the Panasonic 35 in the near future, and really need it at least DVD-codefree. Is there any other way to manage that in any other way than with a Logitech remote?

I'm not familiar with Onkyo remotes, but if it supports the addition of hex codes for commands then it should be possible - Click.

Mithi, you can also use an ALL4One remote.

At least that settles the question of which BD Player to buy after my Samsung BD-P 1400 gives up. I'll get the Panasonic BD-DMP35... that's great that you can turn'em codefree..

Indeed. The current Blu-ray players that can be made multi region for Blu-ray are via hardware mods only.

The LG BH200 (HD DVD/BD combo player) can be made region free for both DVDs and BDs no hardware mods, just enter codes like you would to make a DVD region free (unless that is a hardware mod, not overly familiar with the terminology, lol).

Just made my SONY BDP-S550 sonefree for Blu-Ray... (actually only A and B regions) with ICOS chip and it functions exelent

If you are skilled with the Iron you can get this kit from Bluraymods
There are distributors for Holland, Sweden and the UK
(dont know if this is ment as "commercial product references", as mentioned in forum rules, please let me know)

Don't know about the other kits but all the SONY kits are extremely difficult to install for amateurs.
If you "think" you can do this, don't
If you "know" you can do this, do it...

Picture of one of the chip included in the set, to show how small it is:

Original Norwegian "Nitedal Hjelpestikker" fire stick.

I second LG BH200.  It's the best kept secret.  It can be made region free for both DVDs and Blu-rays with remote control codes plus LG is offering $75 cash back.  The problem is finding one as it is no longer being produced.

Yeah, it's a shame. I would buy two right this minute if I could get them somewhere local!
