| Posted: | | | | I just downloaded the latest version and went to try and add a contribution, and its says contributions from beta not yet accepted or something like that, is there any way to add this contribution? | | | Owner, Operator and Reviewer http://vaultofobscurity.com |

| Posted: | | | | Ken said in the first post that he will allow contributions with the beta in a few days. Until then there is no way to contribute with the beta. If you want to contribute till then you would have to go back to version 3.7 And I would imagine you would have to use your latest back-up you did with 3.7 as I don't think any 3.8 back-ups would work with 3.7 | | | Pete |

Allowing to contribute in few days sounds pretty hasty since there hasn't been any discussions at rules forum yet and I can think several rules issues which new release will bring along. For example: We have room for three Studios and three CoO. If there is a film that actually have five production companies and those first three (that get DVDP credit) are from US and fourth from Finland and fifth from UK. Do we the list CoO's as US, Finland UK, even all DVDP credited production companies are from US? Don't even want to go to Color Formats or Dimensions, etc. issues. | | | Last edited: by Kulju |

Any requests for features or enhancements posted to this thread will be mercilessly deleted. You are welcome to post these in alternate threads in this forum. - Contributions will be enabled in a few days - This version makes significant database structure changes. It is strongly recommended that you back up your collection before running, and also run a database repair. - Please wait to submit reports and layouts designed with this version, but in the mean time you can share them via the beta forum if you like.
....CLIP.... This is nothing new.... he has always since as long as I remember using the program allowed for contributions with the beta even before the rules are written. Believe he has to test things out on the contribution side of things as well. But he also usually has a first draft of the rules he considers right around the same time for us to discuss. | | | Pete |

I understand that, and it's not my db, but I would figure out the rules first before enabling the contributions to avoid several possible (re)contributions for the same field during the time when rules are shaping the final form. A lot less unnesessary work for contributors, voters and screeners. | | | Last edited: by Kulju |

A lot less unnesessary work for contributors, voters and screeners. I believe I raised exactly the same point the last time we had a program change.. and yes.. we had contributions with loads of changes before the rules were set. I see no reason why anything will be different this time. | | | Paul |

| Posted: | | | | I don't like that Ken releases a beta (although called Release Candidate) that overwrites my old database (so I cannot run it in parallell), but still doesn't have full functionality.
I contribute when I add new titles. If I can't contribute then, well I probably won't get around to do it at all, because I tend to forget. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | That is basically what I been doing. I made a Contribute tag... making the changes I need to make and then tag it until we are able to contribute. | | | Pete |

There is a bit of an advantage in using flags over tags in a cases like this. Flags are not actually part of the database, whereas Tags are. So in cases where there are database conversion issues, it can be easier and safer to use a saved Flag Set, which is simply a list of Profile IDs that is not affected by database changes. I'm reasonably sure you know all this ... just putting it on record in case there are newer folks reading these threads that might not know. | | | Thanks for your support. I may have missed it if he already stated it But if he defaults all to color for example only the black and white and mixed would need to be updated |

Flag the profiles that you want to contribute and save them. When the Beta for 3.7 was released I couldn't wait and downloaded it. I was also stupid enough to install it over the previous version; which meant I couldn't go back. As a result, by the time the official release was out I had over 650 contributions flagged for submission. I also had pages and pages of notes. But, what I found was it was incredibly tiresome doing that amount all in one go; and also I couldn't remember the specifics and I ended up re-doing some to keep things clear (obviously my notes weren't too hot ). Anyway...I made a decision at that point: never to use another Beta. |
