According to reports, Danny Boyle is to take all the footage of the opening and re-cut it for DVD etc release.

He is doing this, as he feels that there were several things that he thought were missed, and he wants to highlight more off.

Certainly, the director of the TV production missed a few shots - a good example is the Dr Who reference.

A little more info here

Octopussy

First thought there were only se7en, and the country of origin was United States, but you are right, would have preferred a prodigy to aging gay Billy Macks anyway.

I hope they also include the Closing Ceremonies on the DVD/Blu-ray.

Might well do, seeing as both the Opening and Closing have had a CD Soundtrack release (and mp3 via Amazon or iTunes)

Olympic Medal Results - Adjusted for Population

Interesting, but I have a couple of issues with the premise of the rankings:

(1) First notice that the rankings tend to be weighted towards the smaller countries at the top. This skew is just as problematic as the other way around, right? Is there any natural reason that this should be true?
(2) The weightings do not take into account the number of events entered, the number of athletes and staff involved, the cost of the training programs and equipment and promotion for that particular sport (e.g., running vs. soccer).
Thanks for your support.

Further to my earlier post regarding the "Director's Cut" the BBC Blu-ray and DVD release has had it's features confirmed.

Full details on Amazon.co.uk

But the basics are that the Box Set Includes:

Full Opening Ceremony with Exclusive Director’s Cut from Danny Boyle

Danny Boyle’s exclusive Director’s cut includes all the footage of The London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony broadcast by the BBC, in addition to previously unseen footage from the event as selected by Danny Boyle. A Director’s audio commentary also offers a revealing and inspiring insight into the artistic direction and creative execution of this critically acclaimed ceremony.

8 Hours of Incredible Sporting Highlights [GB Biased as this is BBC release]

Full Closing Ceremony

The dazzling finale, created by Kim Gavin and featuring an array of British music artists

Additional Footage:

In addition, the DVD and Blu-ray will also contain over half an hour of extra features including a rendition of Edward Elgar’s Nimrod by the London Symphony Orchestra’s On Track programme and highlights from the pre-ceremony performance by singer Frank Turner.

Basically, it looks like a very good package for the UK based fan (Or anyone that wants the Director's Cut) [Edit to actually finish the post, doh!]

Thanks for the info, FunkyLA. I am mostly interested in the opening ceremony, but a bit over 20 pounds for a 5-disc BD-set is not bad at all.
