The Wii was a Christmas gift from one of my wife's clients...they developed some bit of software, or something, that makes the Wii work. And the PS3 was a father's day gift from my wife. I guess you are right, it was a bit of both. Smart because I married her and lucky because she was willing to marry me. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | The games are what made my decision on what system to buy. I tried the 360 and tried the PS3. The PS3 won over the 360 because of a few games (SOCOM series, God of War series, Ratchet and Clack series). I don’t regret that I bought the PS3 over the 360, but that also does not mean I do not like the 360 either. I also own the Wii system. The Wii was a Christmas gift that my boys wanted and let me tell you the games are awesome. My kids get up and move around to play. |

When the Gamecube, PS2, PS1, N64, Xbox, etc. they all were expensive/over priced at first for they did. The PS2 only plays games, is not interactive like the Wii and when it first was release it was around $249 to $299. At the time that was high for the economy. For casual system the Wii has games like Mario Cart that you can play online against you friends or evan anybody around the world at no extra cost. Wii vs PS3 | | | Last edited: by Dragon 6 |

Note: That last sentence wasn't aimed specifically at you. It was aimed at all those 'gamers' who like to belittle people who actually enjoy the Wii. Huh? That doesn't even touch on the fact that the PS2 has sold more than the Wii, X360, and PS3 put together. I find it funny that you are happy about millions of people being taken to the cleaners by an overpriced unit that should cost $150. The PS2 has about the same functionality for $120 less. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

They ALL sold for less than what it cost to build...all except the Wii. Quote: The PS2 only plays games, is not interactive like the Wii and when it first was release it was around $249 to $299. At the time that was high for the economy. You must not know about a device called the EyeToy. It is MORE interactive than the Wii. You only get to move 1 arm with the Wii. With the EyeToy you get to move both arms AND legs. That's MORE interactive. When the PS2 launched, it was $299. It costed more to build than what they sold it for (unlike the Wii). It was cutting edge technology when it launched (unlike the Wii). Plus, it was one of the cheapest DVD movie players available (5 to 6 years later and Wii STILL doesn't play DVD movies at twice the price of a PS2). Quote: For casual system the Wii has games like Mario Cart that you can play online against you friends or evan anybody around the world at no extra cost.
Wii vs PS3 I can play just about all my racing, shooting, and strategy games with anyone around the world at no extra cost...in high definition and high quality audio. I have a racing game that can have 16 people online racing at the same time as well. I have a couple interactive games that I can swing one arm around (Sixaxis) as well. Not only that, but I can swing both arms with the PS Eye. How's THAT for interactivity? You remember Nintendo's E3 conference with the Wii Motion Plus Wii-mote? That just helped it to have the same functionality of the Sixaxis controller. Then, I can go on for a long time about the extra functionalities the PS3 has over the Wii. That's why they don't compete in the same space. I'm not saying you shouldn't have fun with your Wii. I'm saying, don't think it's a value. That should have been evident when Nintendo said a launch they are making $50 on every console sold. At this point, they are probably making $100 on every unit sold. That's no more a consumer value than buying a $5 set of foam plates (when you should have paid $2). | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles | | | Last edited: by Ascended_Saiyan |

I don't have to be 'immersed' in a game for it to be fun. Nobody would call Wii-tennis immersive...but I still have fun playing it...especially with my kids. Huh? engrossed - captive immersed - deeply embedded I believe the above words are synonyms. Quote: Wow, call me a liar again. On Sunday I spent the better part of the day playing Mario Party with my 7 year old. Was I tired when we were finished? Sure. Was I uncomfortable? Not at all. As I said, you need to work on your stamina. That is not continuously swing your arm for 5 hours as I stated. I guess by your interpretation I don't work an eight hour shift...I worked for the entire day, huh? Even my neighbor, that walks or runs almost everywhere, can't swing a Wii-mote comfortably for 2 or 3 hours (that doesn't mean with 3 other people in a rotation). If he couldn't do it, it's not about any natural type of stamina...period. However, I have had 8 hour gaming sessions on X360 (when I had it) and PS3 (playing through the Metal Gear games...preparing for MGS4). Quote: As usual, you completely misread my statement. I never said 'shovelware was fun'. What I said, in the context of the quote, was "who cares how much shovelware there is on that platform if the games are fun? What is shovelware to one person may not be shovelware to another. What is fun for me, may not be fun for you. It is quite arrogant for you to claim you know what is and isn't fun...though not unexpected. I didn't misread your statement. It's quoted in one of my previous posts. Why would you try to change it, now? That's weird. The following was ALL you typed for that part: "Again, who cares as long as the games are fun?" That's it...no more...no less. How many of these "eye of the beholder" type games do you have? I'm sure you will come up with a number that will not fail to impress, right? Quote: I should hope so. It has been aroung for, what, 8 years? But what does that have to do with the fact that the Wii is currently...not historically...outselling both the PS3 and the 360? Oh wait, it has nothing to do with it. The point that appears to have been lost on you was that those Wii numbers don't matter to the PS3/X360 any more than the PS2 numbers matter to the Wii (even though the Wii is more of a direct competitor to the PS2 than to the PS3 and X360). Trying to compare the Wii to the PS3/X360 is like trying to compare a Vtech V.Smile to a Wii. It just doesn't make sense. Quote: Value is in the eye of the beholder. Just because you think it is overpriced doesn't make it so. Hundreds of thousands of people seem to believe that it is a good value. While I am glad I got mine for free, seeing how much my kids play it, I would have been just as happy paying for it. It is quite arrogant of you to assume you can decide, for other people, what is and isn't overpriced. There are measuring tools to determine value. Don't try to muddy the water with this eye of the beholder crap. Those "muddy the water" type arguments remind me of Amir's arguments last year. We're just talking about math here. Math is clear cut. Looking at the components in the Wii and the priced charged, you come out with OVERPRICED. It is quite arrogant of you to assume YOU can decide, for other people, what is and isn't overpriced. That is very hypocritical of you to claim Blu-ray was overpriced last year and then say this now. Quote: Can you play Wii Sports on it? How about Mario Party or Mario Kart? Super Smash Bros. maybe? If the answer is 'no', then your statement is meaningless. If it doesn't play the games people want to play, who cares whether or not it has 'about the same functionality'? Oh, that's right...because you say they should care. That is a BS argument. I can list a couple THOUSAND games you can't play on the Wii that you CAN play on the PS2...for $125 LESS. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |
