| Posted: | | | | I always thought Festivals counted and we use the earliest public showing, which includes festivals. Hope I haven't been messing that up for all this time. |

| Posted: | | | | That is the thing... some believe they count... others don't. And everyone is contributing and voting per how they believe it to mean.
We need Invelos to make a decision and let us know. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry Sam, not relevant for the reason I explained. Many festival films are in search of a distributor. If they font find one, its usually the end of the road. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Sure, some festivals are market festivals and those are the ones not generally open to the public but the majority of festivals are open to the public and are show films that already have distributors. Festivals are great marketing tools too, not just a place for films to be sold. San Diego Comic Con show movies and they already have distributors, as do the Fangoria festivals, Terracotta Far East, Frightfest, Sundance, SXSW etc etc etc.
I can see both sides, but until I'm told differently by Ken, I'll add the year of it's first theatrical showing, whether in a festival or a wide release. |

I can't speak for Skip, but being from the US, I have always used a definition similar to that used by Oscars. Here are the full rules, but the basics that I use as a guide are: for paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County, for a qualifying run of at least seven consecutive days, advertised and exploited during their Los Angeles County qualifying run in print mediaI don't use the 'Los Angeles County' portion, but the rest, I do. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | It shouldn't matter if it is only a festival, this earlier date is the one I believe should be the one entered into the database.
The film was seen in a theater by people, I don't care who they are or how many, and therefore its inclusion follows invelos guidelines. |
