Yeah, it's so clear now that A_S is a HD-DVD fan though you can tell that he knows the gig is about up by how quiet he's been and only one short post tonight and a fairly weak argument at that.

Or could it be this?

The Toshiba HD-XA2 is sold (at that same store) for $599.  And the Samsung BD player has more features.  Plus, it outputs at 1080p/24Hz.  That's something NO HD DVD player can currently do.

Toshiba is planning to bring true 24p output capability to two of its its second-generation HD DVD players with a new firmware upgrade due this September.

Adding enhanced functionality to its HD-XA2 and HD-A20 second-gen HD DVD players, Toshiba says the planned firmware upgrade will introduce playback of film-based content at 1080p/24 frames per second (or 24p).

Cue his response about 2nd gen HD DVD players having features that 1st Gen players don't, totally ignoring the exact same point about BD...

Since some people here don't pay attention to facts or logic, I would prefer them to lose their money on HD DVD.  The best lessons are the hard ones.  Like I said, I'm not the one throwing money on a technology that's doomed to fail (for reasons they aren't ready to acknowledge).

To make my last 7 sentences (mainly the first sentence of the second paragraph) clear, it is not my intention to convince anyone to do anything.  I'm just presenting the facts that HD DVD fanboys are so afraid of (that's why they feel the need to make personal attacks...eventually resulting in my attacking right back).

People make their own decisions.  I just present the information, so you can't say you made an uninformed decision.  Emotional decisions are usually the wrong decisions...period.  Some people can't understand that or don't want to understand that.

So, please go out and buy HD DVD players.  Go buy 1 or 2 for every room in your place.  Nothing would please me more!

The 2 ounces of respect I had for you just disappeared by posting such a nasty comment, I'm not sure what you were aiming for with that.

You claim you're not trying to convince anyone to do anything, yet you belittle anyone who actually dares to say he/she likes the HD-DVD format.

You claim you just present the facts and that as a result of this, people (HD-DVD fanboys you tag them) attack you. What you are failing to grasp is the fact that the problem does not lie within what you say are facts, it's the way you are presenting them. Mighty arrogant, wouldn't you say? And at the end of the pole, you're just coming off like a preacher. And THAT is annoying. I truly don't get it (just like I don't get what the hell is that thing in your avatar...  )

I'll ask again. Why is it then that you feel the need to tell everyone that you're right and they're wrong? This is about the only single thread in which you post so I can only see this one sided attitude of yours. You're really not interested in having a discussion about the format. If anyone tries to see the other end of the spectrum, you hit back and start posting your 'facts', one after the other. If that is not trying to convince, I don't know what it is then.

You're biased. It's ok. I guess we all can handle that. But that last paragraph in your post... Good heavens, talk about hit-and-run tactics. And that just makes me believe you have become a running gag. Try not to become a troll, you're dangerously approaching that red zone area.
Funny, these cookies don't taste anything like Girl Scouts.

14 Titles (2 Re-issues)

Blu-ray Releases for June 26 (Week ending July 1)

    * Black Snake Moan  (Paramount)
    * Hustle & Flow (Paramount)

You will notice these 2 releases were/are also available on HD DVD.

HD DVD had 7 times the number of releases Blu-ray had.

The Results...

Any hopes of HD DVD winning a week this year is basically going out the window.  There are maybe 2 more windows of opportunity open for HD DVD.

I haven't posted because I was waiting on the results from the 7:1 title release HD DVD had for that week.  I was pretty sure the numbers would either be about 60% in HD DVD's favor (which would have been bad news for HD DVD), or about even (which would have been really bad news for HD DVD).  But, this 65% in Blu-ray's with a 7:1 disadvantage is HORRIBLE news for HD DVD owners/supporters!

BTW, comparing the Wii to the PS3 is not the most intelligent thing to do.  Comparing it to the PS2 would be a lot more accurate and that would 115+ million to 8+ million.  Who thinks the Wii would last that long?  But, this topic is not for HD DVD vs. Blu-ray threads.

I don't really care, but don't you think you have completely undermined your own argument of the importance of w/e 1st July by demonstrating that the ratio Blu-Ray to HD releases in a given week makes very little difference to the sales ratio.

And compared weekly % statistics are completely meaningless without associated volumes.

These are the specs of a title coming out on Blu-ray and HD DVD called NATURE'S JOURNEY.  This group is completely maxing out the specs for both formats.  It should be great demo material.

Notice the difference in the audio and video numbers.  If you look at the Blu-ray audio specs for this title, you see what Hollywood studios COULD put on movie titles.  Obviously, to accommodate that level of audio yet maintain a great video encode, bandwidth and space is necessary.  Now, this title is only about 67 mins long.  He still couldn't fit a DTS-HD MA lossless track, at 96kHz/24bits, on the HD DVD disc.  In this case, space is not the issue...bandwidth is.

Here's a quote from him...
Quote:
We were limited by the bandwidth of HD-DVD....there was no room to push the encode AND have DTS-HD Master Audio. I would need to "dumb down" so to speak the video encode to make it fit within the allocated bandwidth. I felt that PQ was more important to most people, so I went for best PQ with outstanding audio.

For longer films, you would need more space (like a movie that's 114 mins or longer...the average movie length) on top of bandwidth.  That bandwidth and space is provided on Blu-ray.

We are talking about what Blu-ray needs release wise to maintain dominance over HD DVD.  From these weeks I've listed, you can almost derive the effectiveness of catalog titles versus newer titles.  HD DVD main strategy is to release a lot more catalog titles.  Blu-ray's strategy is to release newer titles.  You are seeing the results of that playing out.  If you noticed, the 2 weeks leading up to June 26 had newer titles  released.  Those carried over to the week ending 7/1.  People were/are still buying those newer titles when they can.  On the HD DVD side, they have released a lot more catalog titles leading up to w/e 7/1 (including w/e 7/1 as well).  The results are clear.  Since HD DVD only has maybe 3 new exclusive titles that will probably have decent box office earnings coming during the holiday season (The Bourne Ultimatum, Evan Almighty, and maybe I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry), the holiday season is looking really bad for HD DVD.

Percentages are far from meaningless.  That's kind of like saying there are two people racing around a track.  The announcer says that one runner is 15 mins ahead of the next runner.  Then, someone says that's meaningless...give it to me in total meters run by both runners so far.

We all know that is what you want, but what you want doesn't equal what is right.  Because the PS3 is more than just a 'game console', it should be kicking the crap out of a 'passing fad'.  I mean, it is a Blu-ray player and a game console.  Gamers and HiDef enthusiasts alike should be snatching it up right and left.  But they aren't.  Why?  My guess would be that people are looking at it as 'just a game console' and nothing more.  As a 'game console', the Wii is just more fun.

Yes that makes my point perfectly.

The 15min figure is completely useless without a context. If the race is 24 hours long, then 15 mins is not that great a lead, if it is a 1 hour long race, it is huge. Context is crucial - and comparing percentages without volumes completely lacks context, so provides no useful info to prove a point.
