Man the fact that you are arguing at length that Blu Ray is the safest bet in the HD format war because even if it fails, it could go the way of UMD and we would still have a trickle of Sony film releases to enjoy is the most ludicrously stupid thing you've ever typed in this thread, its possibly even more stupid than claiming Lair is a solid game... How can you possibly question why ABSOLUTLEY NO ONE IN THIS FORUM TAKES STOCK IN ANYTHING YOU SAY, when you make arguements like this? Just how disconnected from reality are you?

Bunch of links trying to show UMD is still alive

Did you even click on your own links?

Best Buy - 0 items found.

Gamestop and EB were all "used" products.

Of the few places that did actually list UMD movies, none were any recently released movies.  I checked them all looking for any movie that had been released in the last couple months.  Zippy, zero, zilch.

My local target and Best Buy both used to carry UMDs when they first came out and now neither of them stock them. Unless they have them hidden somewhere, perhaps in the PSP game section, but certainly not in the movie section where they used to be.

Your support for Blu-ray I can at least understand (even if you are part of Phase Hydra) but trying to argue that UMD is still a viable format and that it's selling well... that's just madness.

-edit-
I checked again and as far as I can tell Casino Royale is the only recent UMD that is available on Amazon and some of the other sites.

I also checked Best Buy again and corrected the search from your link to just "UMD" and will admit I was actually surprised at what came up.  There actually are some recent movies in there, but it looks like it's only a few that come out each month.  Not exactly a wide selection.  I didn't check the studios but I would bet that they are all Sony Studios movies.  Now I'm curious and next time I am at a B&M Best Buy I will look around and see if I can find any UMDs on the shelves.  It's also curious that Best Buy seems to be the only place stocking these.

-edit 2-
Sorry for all the edits.  Anyway, I was bored and checked all the new releases.  They are all Sony Picture releases.  So Sony is the only one supporting UMD, all other movie studios dropped support back in 2006.  Ya, that's a format to get behind.

Best Buy's search doesn't seem to work when linked to, but ALL you had to do is put UMD into the search engine.  Obviously, you weren't looking hard.  Let me help you out then.

Best Buy: Hostel II UMD

Best Buy: Spiderman 3 UMD

Best Buy: Perfect Stranger UMD

Best Buy: Vacancy UMD

How is that?

EB Games/Gamestop only carry used movies...period (DVD and UMD).  They are easy to find in stores (which was one of my points).

Geez, people!  I not asking difficult things here.  Just open your eyes and use a little brain power...PLEASE.

Uh, did you even read my post?  I thought for a second that maybe you just responded before I made my edits, but nope.. they're right there in your quote.  So, all we ask is that you actually read the posts before responding.  How hard is that?  Just takes, to quote something I heard recently, a little brain power.

It still doesn't change the fact that only Sony Pictures is releasing movies for UMD.  If that is your fallback plan and why Blu-ray is safe because Sony will still support a dead format, then no thanks.  Seems pretty pointless.  I'd rather just stick with regular DVD if that was the case.

Did you even read his post?  You quoted it, but did you read it?  I am guessing you didn't otherwise you would not have made that statement.  His first edit, which is included in your quote, clearly states...and I quote, "I checked Best Buy again and corrected the search from your link to just "UMD" and will admit I was actually surprised at what came up."

Reading is fundamental.

There have been no UMD's in any of the Wal-Mart's in my area in over a year and a half now.

Wal-Mart UMDs look at some of the 2007 release dates

Now that made a lot of sense.  He tells you that his LOCAL Wal-Mart doesn't stock UMD's and you counter by pointing out that they are available at walmart.com.  What exactly was your point?

I should also add that my local Best Buy, Targets and Wal-Mart don't carry them in store either.  Must be because sales are on the rise and they are all sold out.

Target UMDs Online... The B&M stores have more than this.

Best Buy UMDs Online

Fry's Electronics UMDs

Are you getting the point, yet?

Gamestop UMDs

EB Games UMDs

Overstock.com UMDs

Amazon.com UMDs

How about now?

Amazon.UK UMDs

Play.com UK UMDs

Amazon Germany UMDs

Amazon Japan UMDs

If you didn't always doubt what I say, you could have been spared this.  Also, if you would have done a quick online or local store search, you wouldn't have to go through this now.  Now, you have to just be even more upset at me for being correct and wait for another opportunity to try again.

Sorry. I evrything I said about Target back. Thanks to your kind posting of their link, I now realize that I may still purchase a total of three (3) exciting UMD titles online !

So....what does the dead movie format known as UMD have to do with Blu Ray vs HD DVD?

FYI my local future shop has stopped selling UMDs at 2 for $5....they have stopped selling them at all  There are none left on the shelves anyway....the other future shop near me has not had UMD for months...

PSPs are still cool...

Ok, You're right about Best Buy. They do appear to list several pages of UMD titles online, including at least one new release every week or so in August and September.  UMD lives!

As opposed to standard DVDs, which cannot be discussed in this Blu-ray vs. HD DVD thread?
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I'm glad you have such RECENT links.

See links above.  Recent day & date releases are on UMD.  How could that be true if there is no support?

Well A_S when I go to Google or Yahoo or even ASK.com and type in UMD I get hundreds of links to articles like the ones I quoted.  I don't see any links to information or articles about how it is surviving or even releasing new movies.  So in my opinion that means that all the relevant up to date news about UMD happened in 06 when it was announced dead!!!

Try it, go search UMD and see what comes up on Google, and I bet you won't find anything recent unless perhaps you search through the roughly hundreds of pages of link, all the relevant links state the same thing...UMD is DEAD!!!

Phase: HYDRA!!!

Anyone else picture Dr Evil sitting in his secret lair with a gang of henchman all being trained to be Phase: HYDRA agents, about to go out and conquer the world in the name of SONY's evil empire!!!  In the center of the room is a monstrous Laser being powered by the PS3, with the diabolical ability to morph simple minded individuals like A_S into mindless SONY Fanboy robots and Shills!!!

Come A_S Vega is actually backing you and you tell him off like this...

I wonder what you'd do to someone who'd tell you he just bought a Blu-ray player?

//Edit
I actually found a few 2007 movies on Dutch sites that are selling UMD movies... amazing. PSP indeed rules, but imho not for watching movies. You need a HT for that

I wouldn't go so far as to say I was "backing him" but more just admitting that UMD wasn't quite as dead as I originally thought.  Sony's keeping it on life-support for some reason.  I can't imagine they are making any money from it.

For some reason, this is what came to mind:

Quote:

MORTICIAN:  Bring out your dead!
CONSUMER:  Here's one -- nine pence.
UMD:  I'm not dead!
MORTICIAN:  What?
CONSUMER:  Nothing -- here's your nine pence.
UMD:  I'm not dead!
MORTICIAN:  Here -- he says he's not dead!
CONSUMER:  Yes, he is.
UMD:  I'm not!
MORTICIAN:  He isn't.
CONSUMER:  Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
UMD:  I'm getting better!
CONSUMER:  No, you're not -- you'll be stone dead in a moment.
MORTICIAN:  Oh, I can't take him like that -- it's against regulations.
UMD:  I don't want to go in the cart!  Divx is in there!
CONSUMER:  Oh, don't be such a baby.
MORTICIAN:  I can't take him...
UMD:  I feel fine!
CONSUMER:  Oh, do us a favor...
MORTICIAN:  I can't.
CONSUMER:  Well, can you hang around a couple of minutes?  He won't
    be long.
MORTICIAN:  Naaah, I got to go on to Best Buy -- they've lost nine
    today.
CONSUMER:  Well, when is your next round?
MORTICIAN:  Thursday.
UMD:  I think I'll go for a walk.
CONSUMER:  You're not fooling anyone y'know.  Look, isn't there
    something you can do?
UMD:  I feel happy... I feel happy.
    [whop]
CONSUMER:  Ah, thanks very much.
MORTICIAN:  Not at all.  See you on Thursday.

Well I thought that you actually looked so very good... but well it is friday isn't it

But how did that UMD get to the CONSUMER? By an African or European swallow? It is not a question of where he grips the UMD, but more a question of weight ratios
