Again, this is something that doesn't *have* a simple outcome: there's really no simple, sure-fire way to get "just the important ones" - it's either all or nothing. Either we focus on the main unit, and track the occasional set of unit crew locally, or we track all of it: location units, second units, aerial units, underwater units, reshoot units and so on. For anything else, there's just no simple rule, not one that works, that lets us all consistently make the same distinctions as to which units to ignore and which ones to include.

Maybe there is a simple rule out there. But we don't search for it, but try to argue if a single credit reads this or that. We don't even try to define, which crews are important for making a movie and which are just helping hands...

From my point of view, location crews are not unit crews and therefore valid. But this is still not clarified in the rules - neither this nor the other way.

Back then, when v10 was released, I found some headshots, which existed in my local data base, which were not included in v10 - regardless if I added them years ago or some other users provided them, regardless if they are of good or bad quality, here they are (2400 cast and nearly 500 crew).

Headshots Only
Headshots and Profile which includes the source documentation (WARNING: if you restore this file with default options, your data base will be deleted!)

Please be careful, since I did not check these headshots in any way other than excluding invalid BYs and some technical mistakes.

Any feedback welcome...

Remark: Meanwhile I have profiles for all headshots contributed since v10 (including v10) to determine, who and when contributed the headshots (I needed them to find all the headshots, which were not contributed previously, for this post). If anyone is interested in them, send me a PM.

I used AutoHotKey for another (similar) problem, but it ended up in multiple entries of the same case member in the profiel. There is some timing issue between AutoHotKey and DVDProfiler...

I've sent a PM to the author of the Headshots Master DB v10, how he created the files. Let's see, if he can help...

I think the Repair Tool will strip them out, ...

Yes, the repair tool offers options to remove that entries. But there is also an option to preserve orphans (I'll stick with this term) with images:

Quote:
... but I don't see a way for a plugin to get that data.

That's bad news.
Quote:
I'm guessing that it would be orphaned data that was not removed when a profile was deleted or edited. I can't think of another way non-connected cast / crew could get into a database. Can you?

Yes, on importing a headshot database. Headshot databases are per definition orphaned cast crew members only. When you import one of them, the headshots get linked to the existing cast/crew members and cast/crew members which are not existing in the current data base get created as such orphans...
Here is a very small one for testing. And, hence, since I'm aware of the problems finding and managing such orphaned cast/crew entries, I provide a profile (second file) for my updates; I even create profiles for updates which I import from other users. But there are no profiles for the initial (large) data base available - and I can't imagine to create them for thousands of cast/crew entries...

Did you look at the tools and links I provided? There is at least one that creates an Access from the XML export.

Yes; though I have to admit, that I've already taken a look at most of them before...
Quote:
Only problem is: the XML does not have a flag for the existence of a head shot (maybe I'm wrong, I only checked briefly). But of course that information is available internally to a plugin.

Yes, and the fact, that the XML export only covers cast and crew for exported profiles. Cast and crew members, which are not listed in any profiles are ignored.
Quote:
If you can confirm by looking at the references I gave, that nothing is available, I would be willing to take a look at doing something quick. Probably stuff some code it into a non-public version of an existing plugin such as MyTools, that you could install temporarily. It wouldn't be pretty, but I would try to make it do what you need.

... this sounds great. Pretty is not the topic. Minimal workload seems to be more apropriate for a thing only used once...

I'ver never looked into plugin development. What environment do you use for DVDP Plugins?

... just a thougt: Does anybody know, which data base the files in the database folder belong to? Maybe the files can be imported to Access or another data base??

Topic Replies: 20, Topic Views: 456
I don't need the photos exported; a boolean indicating the presence of a headshot is enough for me.

But I need the whole cast & crew tables; all the existing tools operate on profiles, which excludes all cast/crew entries, which are not used for an existing profile.

I'm looking for a possibility to export the complete cast and crew list from my local database.

Why? - I'm sure, that there are headshots hidden in my database, which I did not contribute to the official headshot thread. Therefore I'd like to export my personal database and compare it against an export of the current headshot database.

Therefore I'd need a list with structured names and a flag, if a headshot is attached (in any format, I can import to Excel or something similar):
FirstName;MiddleName;LastName;BirthYear;PhotoYesNo

Is anyone arount here, who can provide such a list?
Or any other ideas, how I could compare two databases??

- are you modifying your PC or is it a box, which you buy once and throw away when aged?
->in general no modifications planned as I buy what I need in advance

As of today maybe you should consider to add RAM later on, since currently the RAM costs more than 100,- € per 8GB, which is more than three times what it costed last year.

Quote:
- which OS(es) are you planning to use?
->Win10Pro

Then you are on the safe side concerning SSD compatibility. You don't have to worry about which SSD interface to use...

Quote:
- are you using the PC for streaming?
->Yes!

You should be aware, that not all CPU/graphics combinations are able to stream 4K. Not the only article about this very confusing issue, but the shortest: here

Quote:
- are you using the PC for transcoding?
->Nope, only converting CD to MP3

... then any quad core CPU should do it (hyperthreading or more cores won't generate any benefits, all current CPUs are capable of running hypervisors (VT) and the little difference in cache memories don't justify larger CPUs. You can safely ignore the base frequencies, as for desktop systems the single thread performance is the crucial part, which is expressed by the Max Turbo Frequency.

Quote:
- using Oracle VirtualBox-machines (just for fun)
...
I'm a little bit concerned about 8GB RAM as I managed it to "kill" my current 16GB when copying bigger files from/to HDD or memory cards...

Yes, virtual machines can really be a RAM issue. I'd definitly look for a system, which can be upgraded beyond 16GB. But as said above, today this is very expensive.

Overall, I'd check a business PC from a large manufacturer with a fast Core-i5 CPU (Kaby Lake i5-7600 or Coffee Lake i5-8600), 8GB RAM expandable to 32GB (without dumping the already purchased RAM - needs four sockets), which supports HDCP 2.2 and dual 4K@60Hz screens. Most business PCs already come with Windows Pro and many offer on site support for a reasonable amount of money. I won't worry about the technical aspects of the SSD, but about the size. I won't go lower than 500GB

Agree on:
- no graphics card needed (increases cost, temperature and noise for nothing)

Partly disagree on:
- moving the Own Files/Pictures folders to the hard drive (especially with photo browsing this is annoying...)
- 3GHz is enough (the more the better)
- 8 GB RAM is sufficient (Depends on the applications used; photo editing, everything with 3D or graphics tends to use everything, which is available; just check, if your current PC uses more than 6GB - if yes, 16GB are worth an investment; but with current memory prices it is really becoming an issue...)
- M.2 is faster (M.2 does nothing say about the interface SATA or PCIe/NVM; NVM is slightly faster but SATA still is more flexible, since it is suported by any OS)

Basic questions:
- are you modifying your PC or is it a box, which you buy once and throw away when aged?
- which OS(es) are you planning to use?
- are you using the PC for streaming?
- are you using the PC for transcoding?
