A year later, I want to revive this thread...

Do you have news?

The feeling of abandonment on this site becomes more pressing...
It's really sad.

Well at least the site is still up and running.

Which sadly had me thinking, what to do if the site is no longer up. That the company folded up.

As a back up, perhaps the community should look into some sort of way to continue sharing profiles if the worst ever did happen.

One site that maybe a good site to use is the blu-ray.com forums.
(I'm not saying start doing that now, but to have an agreement of the community to where to post about dvdprofiler).
After all this could come with no warning at all...Look at what happened with the tvshowsondvd site. Just closed up and now just posts on facebook. But not everyone uses Facebook.

The online does not show custom roles. CubbyUps is right. Also, one very big problem I have been telling invelos about for years about custom roles is this:

If you use custom roles and then update from a contribution, you will get duplicate names and roles, example.

John Smith ... Visual Effects and you change it to John Smith ... Visual Effects Supervisor, then later down the road someone updates the profile and you download that update, you will get John Smith ... Visual Effects in the original position you had your custom role and your John Smith ... Visual Effects Supervisor will be placed at the bottom of the Art section. It's an extreme pain the the A _ _ you either have to write down the changes and do them manually or go ahead and update the profile from the online and copy the custom roles from your duplicate to the new one or move your duplicates back where they belong and in both cases you will have to delete the duplicates.

Note: I keep all my Crew credits locked until I see which way I want to handle the update. Also, your online collection will show your custom roles, but not the online profile.

I really wish Ken would fix this.

Seen that too about the duplicates. Now I know what's causing it.

I wonder why Ken can't have the program ignore custom roles. Why have it set up where it ignores what you have locally anyway and put in a duplicate entry for the same person just because one is using a custom role for the standard role/credit.

On a somewhat related note, wish he'd also add where one can enable the ability to have the program ignore Fake Birth Years. It frankly gets a little annoying having to go through updated profiles and weed through highlighted changes which are only due to locally fake birth years.
Why not just have where any birth date that is 3000 or above is automatically ignored by both the program and the contribution page?

Probably the only way to port over custom roles is from a saved backup, not via the download from online.

I would like to have the ability to organize Features in whatever order I want to.

For example, I could organize them alphabetically or in importance to me (say I want commentary at the top and scene access at the bottom.)

http://www.amazon.com/Jim-Taylor/e/B001K7QNE4

Both IMDB as Wikipedia name 1962 as BY. The amazone link doesn't name a BY at all. I cam't find any other proof. So is there somebody who can confirm if 1962 or 1963 is the correct BY?

This is a tough one. The Amazon-link refers to an entirely different person named Jim Taylor, so that one doesn't help us. The eNotes-link doesn't give any information anymore. That leaves us with:

IMDb says it's 1962, while Wikipedia lists both birth years:

Wikipedia links to this article from the Pomona College Magazine as a source for this birth year. That article is from spring 2005 and states that he's 42 at that time. That would lead to 1963, but it still depends on his actual birth date. So theoretically, either could be correct - short of someone contacting him somehow, there's no way of being sure. I do know that I have profiles for nine films with the 1963 BY accepted into it, and nothing really "hard" enough here to warrant a change to all of those, right?

I did find a Library of Congress entry for a Jim Taylor that states he was born in 1962.

http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2008008811.html

but they used IMDB as their source.
"Sources

found: I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry, 2007 (Jim Taylor, screenplay writer; film not viewed)
found: Internet movie database, Feb. 6, 2008 (Jim Taylor; b. 1962 in Bellevue, Wash.; writer, director, producer)"

So does that change anything in favor of 1962?

I disagree that ADR is crew.
One can "act" with their voice just as voice only does for animated films.

As far as I understand ADR is also used in cases where the original audio's dialogue is too junked up with atmospheric noises on the set, like on a street scene and they have car engines, cars honking, people talking too loudly in the background and whatever else. So they bring in the actors to redo the dialogue again.
Or perhaps the director doesn't like the dialogue take of a scene, but it's not possible to do a reshoot for it so they just bring in the actors to redo their dialogue.

Here are some quotes from the following site: http://filmsound.org/terminology/adr.htm

Quote:
Marion Brando likes to loop because he doesn't like to
freeze a performance until he knows its final context.

Quote:
“Meryl Streep loves ADR. She is one of those actors who can see exactly what it’s for and understands what it can do for her performance – She doesn’t make a meal out of it and just gets on with it rather, than as some others do, go on about why the sound person has’nt done his job properly”

Foley work (sound recording such as for walking, sword fights, slamming doors etc.) is very different. One being that the sound being provided is not for an actor(character), but an object.
Look at it this way, we don't credit the guy that provided the beeps for R2-D2 but we do credit Kenny Baker for portraying the droid onscreen.

Now I need a little help with the credits.

Most of the credits just run together and it's rather difficult to determine if some people get credited or not.

In this one, how to do the credits for the U.S. Troops.
People listed in the Military Vehicles group?

Wranglers? Credit or not?

Everything below the Wranglers is easy.

It's the first time I ever bought a sealed dvd that turned out to be just a DVD+RW. The thing doesn't even have a label on it.

Guess it was the cheapest way to go. Like a burn on demand type of system. Instead of wasting money on pressing discs that may not sell just burn them when people order them.

Now I have to see if the Disc ID can be read.
