A contribution has been made proposing removing the colon from the title. In my view, this would be incorrect.

Both this film and the 1959 film are based on Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel, "Ben-Hur: a Tale of the Christ." The full title of both films is "Ben-Hur: a Tale of the Christ".

If a change is to be made it should be to Ben-Hur with the original title recorded as Ben-Hur: a Tale of the Christ. There is no need to record the edition as "1925 Version".

I propose that the profile should be submitted as Ben-Hur with the original title recorded as Ben-Hur: a Tale of the Christ and that the 1925 Version be dropped. This would foillow the convention for the 1959 version in the database.

Thoughts?

The full title is not displayed on the screen. I maintain that the official title is Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

Agree with Dan and Skip.

Not sure about the edition being 1925 version, but the edition field is there to differentiate between different releases so IMO it is OK. (But I am not one that insists on editions coming from the front cover of the box as some here seem to do )

Your CONTRIBUTION is bogus and does not follow the Rules, telecine. Keep your opinion LOCAL.

You obviously have a problem with reading the screen.

Looking again one could argue the title is "Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ" or "Ben Hur A Tale of the Christ" but NOT simply "Ben Hur"

Rick:

You set me up and I can' t resist so here's a poke in the ribs. Rick do you remember when I expressed concern about users  and whether or not they could all read Roman Numerals. It's right there on the screen

Really? That is very presumptuous of you. Here are a couple of references to get you started:

http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/52/benhur.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben-Hur

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0016641/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052618/combined

http://www.filmsite.org/benh.html

That is just the first page of google results that I can refer you to that are handy for everyone to reference.

In every case the 1925 version is referenced as Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. A Tale of the Christ is referred to as a subtitle and the film is based on Lew Wallace's novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

What have you got?

Let's see my own knowledge of General lew wallace and his work is all I need.

You list 5 sources, and 3 of those sources are from sites known NOT to be relied upon for accuracy.

I would be happy personally with Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ but A Tale of the Christ is a subtitle. See http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/52/benhur.htm

Skip,

It is not easy to find reliable sources on the Internet as you would know. Even on your count, that leaves me with two sources that are consistent with three doubtful sources. Not conclusive I agree but I would like to discuss this based on some facts rather than emotion. I am not try to be difficult or troublesome.

I don't believe that anyone can sustain an argument for why the edition sould be recorded as 1925 Version. I just don't see how the rules would allow for it.

Someone has proposed removing the colon from the title. I haven't seen any source quoted for that. On the contrary, I have quoted sources that would tend to rebut the notion. Given that those sources suggest A Tale of the Christ is a subtitle would that not alone be suggestive that a colon should be used to seperate the two?
