The debate is as outlined in the poll.

Some feel the entire profile needs to be audited for a contribution.

Others feel, as long as the change is correct it should be approved.

There are some who feel if you change a field, that entire field should be correct and complete.

Seems to me you've left out an important variation:  If submitting any profile, whether new or update, you should ensure that all data in any section you make changes in, should be correct, even if it is someone else's original mistake.  Such as:  If you add to cast or crew, make sure ALL cast and crew are correct.

If that is already there, let me know so I can vote for that one, rather than Other.

I included that....

Change Must Be Complete and Correct = If you resubmit a field it must be complete and correct

Yeah, I usually leave the studios alone, because I've never been able to get the hang of them, and there's a bunch of other people on here who are better at it than I am.

For me it is the Crew Credits I must leave alone... I just can't wrap my mind around how they are to be done... so I just leave those for the ones that understands it.

EDIT:
I am just shocked that there was actually a vote (so far) for all sections must be complete and correct... kinda goes against the whole purpose of the partial contributions ability... and one I personally would never do. there is a few sections I really not comfortable with... the above being the worst for me.

So if I correct the, say director, I also must have all of the sound crew right? Forget it, never gonna happen here... If I make a correct change, that should be enough.

There should not necessarily be one rule for all fields.
For overview, title, audio and video formats, disc IDs and such, anything else but complete and correct makes no sense. Some fields only have one item, and there "complete" has no meaning.
However for cast and particularly crew, improvements can be brought in piece by piece. That's why this is a collaborative effort (IMNSHO).

I find it amusing that only six (so far) seem to agree with those who bashed Skip a for the past several days for not placing quotes around 'loverly'.

I actually thought Skip was right on this issue (being incomplete, not the quotes), so did not participate in the bashing.

I think the bashing became a goal in itself.

voted for "Correct but Not Complete" because, that's what the whole contribution thing is about in my opinion.
Of course I would say if someone e.g. contribute the DiscID he also could/should check layers while he is at it, but the lack of it wouldn't be reason enough to vote anything other than "Yes" if the change is correct.
And yes, if you correct an Overview you might want to check for ALL mispelling etc, but again, if not -> CIY (contribute it yourself)

I have my pet peeves as regions, but leave studios, cast and crew alone most of the time because I don't care for them. Some other contributer might not care for regions but the other three, so combined we make up a good profile.

Ahhhh, can't have polls without a weekly poll from Dan.

Correct=Yes
Complete=Optional

I personally like seeing multiple people being credited on a profile - and not all for images either.

What, no snide comments about me stacking the deck? How am I to live up to my newly earned signature?

Depends on the field.

For cast and crew, where individual changes are highlighted, then specific changes are fine imo. But for something like, say, overview, then if you are submitting a change then your submitted data should be complete and correct.

I guess its the way it's worded that bothers me.  A "field" is a single piece of information in one record, rather than a "section" that covers ALL the fields in that area.

At first, I had voted that if you tackle a specific field in your contribution, you should make sure it is both correct and complete.

But then, I started thinking a little more. And the precedent it would create actually defeats the purpose of the program as a collaborative effort. There are fields where you have no choice but to make them complete and correct, as they contain only simple data. But Cast? Crew? especially those multi-episode divided ones, should I really be expected to verify every single entry just because I noticed a typo in the directors name?

So I changed my vote. I think a contribution should add correct data, but if the error was present before, you can't demand that it be corrected.

There should be one more choice:

All flelds "Complete and Correct", with the exception of cast and crew, which must be correct but may be incomplete.
