Dan, you're going to have to tell these fools that this update of the file list pictures will not affect single disc titles.

We have never called the case type anything but a keep, or a digipack, etc., regardless of it being in an outer cardboard sleeve or pocket.

What loss?  You do realize we're talking about the parent profile here?  That we're talking about a box?  A cardboard box is NOT a digipack and never was.  We still call the case type in the child profiles a digipack if that's what it is.  That hasn't changed one bit.  Nothing has been lost at all.

Unless of course, you're one of those who likes to cram 5 lbs of crap into a 4 lb bagl by stuffing everything into the master profile.  If that's the case, then you'll just have to use your local settings and lock 'em down.

No, you aren't.  If you look at the new images Dan has included in the 'case type thread', you will see that they are all single feature releases.

I think its getting a little carried away, and instead of puting more thought into it SEVERAL people jump the gun without thinking the hole thing thru.

I think now will have a bigger mess that we had before. So now instead of a Slip Cover (Box Set) were going to have a mess.

So what is this going to be classified as - Futurama: Volume 4 - Its a slip cover over a slip case with THINpacs inside.  Also it the same with - Dead Like Me: Season One. I'm sure the more in the style.

I know there was a change needed but I think the was very little thought put into the out come and the end results.

Until now. That is the whole point of the complaints. Those shown are single releases. [ignoring the urge to add expletive here]

I am going to try and point this out without being rude...

Please go back and re-read the thread.  Wait, I will save you the effort...

James: So single movies, whether packaged in a keep case or digipak, which have an outer slip case are now to be entered as slip case?

DanW: Of course, these have been incorrectly entered for a couple of years.

James: hmm. Incorrect by what standard? Near Dark and Amélie are in the database as digipaks whereas Reds is in the database as keep case. Seems like they're "correct" to me as-is and are only "incorrect" due to the change to slip case.

Dan W: Incorrect by the standard of, that isn't what you see on the shelf at the store when you buy them. What you keep on the shelf at home is up to you.

Should I continue or have you seen who the real fool is?  Here's a hint...look in the mirror.

Edit:  I guess I should try harder next time.

Thanks reybr.  Another good example of what they are talking about.

Well, it's like this, John. You and several other users have been doing it incorrectly. I, and others, believe this is due to the confusion of the case type name of "Box Set" being a choice in the case type field, and the term "Box Set" being used to refer to multi-film releases on multiple discs.

Just to help "un-confuse" you a little more.... Keep in mind that "Box Set" is a term used to refer to multi-disc "sets" where only one film is in the "set". Take a look at Hellboy.

These are now 'slip cases' in Dan's thread. All 3 are single film releases. Near Dark and Amélie are digipacks inside slip cases and are currently in the database as digipaks. Reds is a keep case inside a slip case and is currently in the database as a keep case. All 3 of these will need to be changed to 'slip case' in the database due to this change.

This is what we 'fools' are not happy about.

Just glancing at my collection... you can add Panic Room (Digipack) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) to that list. Both also in slip covers.

I sampled a small section of my collection and came up with:

Keep Cases in Slip Cases:
The San Pebbles (Cinema Classics Collection)

The Other Side of Midnight (Cinema Classics Collection)
Von Ryan's Express (Cinema Classics Collection)
The Longest Day (Cinema Classics Collection)
Guys and Dolls (Deluxe Edition)
Pin Up Girl (Marquee Musicals)
Week-End in Havana (Marquee Musicals)
Daddy Long Legs (Marquee Musicals)
Air Force One (Superbit) (my other superbits have sleeves with openings on either side, but Air Force One is a keep case in a slip case)

Digipaks inside Slip Cases:
Amadeus 2-Disc SE
The Mission 2-Disc SE
Casablanca 2-Disc SE
The Adventures of Robin Hood 2-Disc SE
The Color Purple 2-Disc SE
Kingdom of Heaven 4-disc DC
Unbreakable
Boogie Nights
Magnolia
Gone With the Wind CE
Walk the Line
Jerry Maguire SE
Citizen Kane
THX 1138
Midnight Cowboy CE

I even have an Elite that will be a Slip Case:
Planet Earth HD DVD

I think the term for this is 'shoehorning'.

I believe a lot of users would (correctly) profile this as a Boxset for the simple reasoning that it's a box containing multiple separately packaged DVDs.
I still think this is most logical: if it's in a box that is required to keep everything together, it's a Boxset casetype, if you can throw away the box because the contents are a single item, it's the casetype of what is inside the box.
That's definitely what a lot of users have been using so far.

If tht is how the majority see it, then I am willing to go with it.

That is what is bothering me so much in the current discussions. Sure, T!M and I may not be following the rules, but apparently 80% of the DP population agrees with us. And rightfully so because it is the most logical choice. Yet, it seems to be so hard to adapt this as a new rule (which the majority already think it's the rule anyway). And you know why: because those that ARE following the rules are the ones who were involved in creating them in the first place. I can only think it's their pride getting in the way of admitting that perhaps their decision back then was not so good after all.
