... Secondly it doubles the results when double clicking on an actor's name to see what other films that actor played in.

It doesn't happen to me

Personally, I think this is a bad idea. For one thing it just bloats the database with redundant data.

True...

No, it wouldn't. Just as you don't see multiplied entries for TV cast; only one listing per profile.

How about a checkbox instead for top billed?

That is not a bad idea, if coupled with an option to display top-billed actors first...

I thought about checkboxes too, but that would not provide the ordering of the top billed. If the main cast was was alphabetical, then the "checked" would be alphabetical too, rather than in front credit billed order.

You could have a way of numbering them - a free text box, of a series of drop down lists - but I think that is less practical than having the duplicate info.

For me doubling the results is a problem with profiler that needs to be addressed - people should only be listed once per profile when searching for a name. It is a generic problem common to any person named twice, not specific to this, so don't see it as a reason against this idea.

OK, back to the English drubbing of the Yanks in the Rugby...

This only happens if the role played is different in each listing.  As has already been pointed out, as long as the role is the same, the actor is only listed once.

I agree. Personally, I would go with the third option (in fact, I do it locally this way) and just move the top-billed actors to the top where they belong. James (m.cellophane) is a bit more moderate, and I would be willing to go with his approach if many people think that a copy of the end credit order is equally important to them.

I don't even see that... If there are multiple Roles in the same profile, they are shown separated by comma, in the same item.

That is actually what I meant.  Looking at what I wrote I can see how it was a tad misleading.  Thanks for clarifying what I meant.

How do we order top-billed?

Often it is easy... the cast member listed first comes first.

But what about names in the slightly upper right and slightly lower left to achieve equal billing? Not unknown these days...
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I've taken goodguy's advice and started a poll on this to see how popular it is.
