If an actor is listed in both the opening and end credits where their role is provided in the opening credits but, not in the end credits.  Can you use another source besides the opening credits for the role name since it is not provided in the end credits?

Does the credit say: John Doe as John Smith or does it just have Starring: John Doe? Normally if it is John Doe as John Smith in the opening credits and not the closing credits, I still include it, but make sure you mention where it came from in your notes.

But if the role is provided in the opening credits, what would be the point of going to another source?  The opening credits are still "credits" so if a role is there that should be the only source needed.

Just curious, do you not like the role name provided in the opening credits for some reason?

Rules say:

"Some actors may be credited a second time in either credits at either the opening or close of the film."

So using the opening credits should be o.k., no need for other sources.

Why would you want to do that?  If the role is shown in the film credits, either end (as first choice) or opening credits (if it's only there), I would use that, not other sources.

I'm not saying I'm the one doing it, I'm asking a question because there is  contribution up for vote currently is using a role name from another source.  I can only assume because the role is not provided in the end credits.

If there is nothing in the Contribution Notes indicating it, I'd vote No and wait for the PM of the contributor for an explanation...

Other than that I agree with what was said above.

If the role from the "other" source is not the same role as in the opening credits then I would vote no.

Well, when the role is mentioned neither in the opening credits nor in the end credits it should be well-founded why to add it to the credits at all.

In many old movies the role is not mentioned in the films credits but you can find it out watching the movie.

Yes, in those cases it should be well documented with timecode or so. IMHO third party sources should only be the "ultima ratio".

Well, yes, it should, but I wouldn't vote NO if I know the role names are right, I mean as in the movie.

Actually, getting the role name from the movie itself is just as good as the credits on either end.  I've done many, many contributions using "cast listed as credited, or from watching movie" and never had one turned down for that.

While I am late to the party, I agree with Skip...and the others...if the role is listed in the opening credits, use that one.

Better to be late than never, plus you are only fashionably late.
