How do we enter Senator John Doe?
I guess: John // Doe [credited as Senator John Doe]

I am pretty sure that's already been discussed, but I couldn't find the thread.

EDIT: after this thread, I changed my mind to "Senator Bill // Bradley", see below, even if I understand there can be different point of views.

Thanks to both f you. I wanted to be sure before editing a profile.

EDIT: There is a problem, though. In this case (Senator Bill Bradley in The Cosby Show: Season 5, episode 19), there are other actors with the same name as his

Could we not use the rule covering "Dr." -- add to the first name field?
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Probably not because you are a "Dr." for the rest of your life, once you made it, that's not necessarily so with Senators.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Well, that is not quite true,goblins. Once you have held an office, it is yours for life....unless you hold a higher office, your "title" would then change and that would be the way in which in you are formally addressed for the rest of your life.

Prefixes are NOT dealt with in the option described by Enry. It is a reasonable idea, but the Rules say otherwise. Would require a Rule change and i don't believe that is necessary for this. The alias system is designed for a specific purpose, now we are beginning to take into an area in which WE arbitraily depart from the data and assign our own alias. NOPE.

Now it is "Senator / Bill / Bradley", which I feel is very wrong.

I see two options:

1. "Bill // Bradley" [as Senator Bill Bradley]

That was my first idea, BUT I guess that would require a BY to distinguish him from other actors with that name, and I understand BYs can be a pain  in the ankle

2. "Senator  Bill // Bradley"

As Skip said, Senator once, "Senator" forever. Besides, that's just as credited in the only appearance of Senator Bradley as an actor  (it's the only appearance according to http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1345034/#actor ).

That's true, but on the other hand a title is not (part of) a name

There is no way to contribute them as credited and as per rules. I would do it the same way EnryWiki did (and in the past the screeners accepted it).

It is for our purposes Schizzo. If it is listed as part of the Actors credits, Associations are NOT.

Again Enry.

Senator Bill//Bradley. Why do we have to keep covering the same ground every few months with same arguments.

Yes, I came to that same conclusion.

Because:
a. there is nothing specific in the Rules on that issue, AFAIK,
b. there are no FAQs on that (at least I couldn't find them),
c. the Search tool could be better;
d. there is no Search tool for old Intervocative forums, AFAIK;
e. fellow users seem to still have diverging opinions on the issue;
f. even old discussions have no "rule" value,
g. you didn't provide any reference of where the question was settled long ago,
h. finally, like I wrote,

I am pretty sure that's already been discussed, but I couldn't find the thread.

EDIT:
i: how do the new rules on Names affect the issue? That's a new question, anyway.

If that is how he is credited, then yes, it is the way it should be entered.

Once you leave office you are no longer a Senator, you are a "former Senator".  It is not a "title for life" except for the President.

The Rule for "credited as" applies here.  His "name" is different than the way he is credited.  His name is Bill Bradley....not Senator Bill Bradley.

At the time this episode was aired, his name was 'Senator Bill Bradley'.  From what I have read, this was his only role AND there are other actors with the name 'Bill Bradley'.  That means we must add BYs as well as the 'credited as' for this one single role.  It seems a whole lot easier, and better, to simply use his title at the time.
