So I grit my teeth and purchased the full version of Power DVD build 3730 hoping that it would play the Across the Universe on BD. It doesn't. I did find a forum that claims that previous build 3704 can.    Of course I cannot find a link for that build and Cyberlink has so far declined to respond to my queries. Any thoughts on where I might find it?

Found an email from Cyberlink (dated this morning) in my junk mail just now.  I am downloading it now (71 MB).

<edit>This update doesn't appear to work on OEM versions (see subsequent messages in this thread).  It's more a sales pitch to upgrade than a patch notice.</edit>

Dear PowerDVD user,

CyberLink has just released an important Blu-ray 1.1 Profile update for all PowerDVD Ultra users. This crucial update allows you to enjoy Blu-ray movie discs that feature picture-in-picture functionality. A slew of movie titles released in 2008 include this feature such as 3:10 to Yuma, Sunshine and Resident Evil: Extinction. Update your PowerDVD Ultra today. Or, if currently are unable to play HD movie titles, click here to upgrade to PowerDVD Ultra at an exclusive $10 off.

Supports Blu-ray Profile 1.1 (also known as Final Standard Profile or BD-Video Profile 1.1)
Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs
Blu-ray Profile 1.1 is a specification standard for hardware and software players regulated by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). All Blu-ray players have complied to Blu-ray Profile 1.1 since November 2007. See the table below for more details.

Sorry, i didn't look back at the movies being discussed about and thought Sunshine was what you were complaining about.

Rereading the original email i now see the line "click here to upgrade to PowerDVD Ultra at an exclusive $10 off" indicating this isn't so much a patch notice as a sales opportunity for them.

I am also registered for a non-Ultra PowerDVD 7 which i replaced with the OEM Ultra version when i got my LG drive.  This e-mail was apparently sent to me to get me to upgrade the former.  Sorry for the confusion.    I'll edit the original note to reflect this.

I found a new software player for BD/HD DVD: ArcSoft TotalMedia 3.5.

I am trying out the free preview. I like the interface a bit more than power dvd, although there are not as many configuration options. But what I really like is that it can output sound through the HDMI unlike PDVD. It still only sends the core of the sound a la spdif instead of the full lossless track, but it is still better than running a separate wire for spdif.

As for BD compatibility, most titles I have tried seem fine, although just like PDVD Across the Universe is completely uresponsive once the menu loads.

I checked them out before but...

"Notes: AMD(ATI) graphic cards are only supported on Windows Vista 32 at this time. Please contact AMD for updated drivers."

So it's of no use to me.
