| Posted: | | | | you can't deny the fact there are HD-DVD's in the collections of some users. You can not turn the clock back and say they don't exist. So the HD DVD feature should stay. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | Well, this is DVD Profiler, so both Blu-ray and HD DVD should be deleted immediately. Okay, the HD DVD Combos can stay, at least they are playable in a DVD player... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Only if beta was added into VHS profiler while the format war goes on.
Having the HD-DVD in there doesn't hurt anything and would actually take more time to go through and remove support for it (which would also irritate all the users who own some HD-DVDs) than just leaving it there and ignoring it. Besides, aren't there still a few months left of new HD-DVD titles?
What happens when (actually if) DVD becomes obsolete and only Blu-ray is available? do we (though its not actually us) then remove support for DVD because its "dead, ans is now a ... part of the history". Just rename the program to Blu-ray profiler.
To me leaving HD-DVD support is different than adding Laserdisc or VHS support. Those were dead when the program was made, so why spend time to add in legacy formats. but HD-DVD was added when it was new and could have been the next generation format (and it probalby didn't really require all that much additional work, especially since it was added with blu-ray) so why go backwards now that its 'dead'
*edit* even though i wrote a (somewhat) detailed response on why it is pointless to remove HD-DVD, I still hope that the OP was joking with this thread.

| Posted: | | | | There is one other thing we must remember. As HD dies and everyone clearances it out there will be a person and even likely people that will buy it up. Sometimes a $30.00 player is just too much to resist and when the movies are $5.00 it will be the same thing. If you are, lets say $75.00 in on a dead format and you have a player and few good flicks you WANTED in HiDef what is the issue. I remember when VHS died, my local BestBuy was selling players for $9.99 and movies for as low a $1.50. They sold out fast. HD support should remain, I just hope the titles that were HD only will go Blu and soon. Just my two cents... |

I also wondered what would become of HD-DVD in the database. What would be the number of HD-DVD profiles out there? Nah, let's keep them. To deny their existence after so much of an investment of data entry time and purchasing dollars would be a kick in the face to the format and the users. It's a sad beginning, which will hopefully vault the sales of Blu-Ray. I'll keep my old-fashioned SD-DVD collecting going. |

| Posted: | | | | Besides, when people buy those previously exclusive titles on Blu-ray they can use the HD DVD profiles as templates for new submissions. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

It would make more sense to remove bad profiles than those HD's... But if we remove all of the bad profiles people won't have anything to whine about... LOL |

| Posted: | | | | Yes, we should maintain HD-DVD support. We're not Microsoft, are we? Quoting falcon2099: Quote: If there was a VCR Profiler, I suppose we'd have to keep BETA in there as well eh? Not just VHS?? If the hypothetical VCR Profiler at some point supported Beta, then yes, that would have to remain as well. BTW, at least here in Europe, there was a third format (developed by Philips) called Video2000. Technically the best of the lot, but didn't make it in the marketplace because Philips wouldn't allow porn titles to be released on it... |
