Lastly, we’ve announced a new Wireless Keypad for PS3 that will make text communications and Web browsing much easier. The Wireless Keypad snaps onto the top of a SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller and comes with some cool features, including a mode that turns the main key area into a touch pad (similar to a touch pad on a Laptop computer). Once in this mode, you can slide your finger on this area to move the cursor on the screen and tap to enter. There will be two short cut buttons on the Keypad that will enable users to jump directly to the XMB’s “Friends” icon and the “Message Box” during gameplay. The Wireless Keypad will launch in late November.

Last but not least, the Wireless Keypad is a Bluetooth device that can not only be used with the PS3 system but with any other Bluetooth enabled device that has Keyboard functionality. You will be able to use it with your smart phones and other portable devices that are equipped with Bluetooth. With the PS3 system, it can be paired and charged seamlessly just by connecting them with a USB cable

Hmmmm.....

That could come in handy.  If the price isn't too much.

Yea, it looks pretty cool...hope they price it well.

I'd pay $20 easily.  I'd have to think hard about $40.  But I imagine it will be at least $40 if not more.

It'll be interesting to see what it does to the balance of the controller.  It probably won't be that heavy but i have to think it will make it want to tip forward some.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

I had a spare USB keyboard which I attach to the PS3 when needed. I also added a USB extension, so it reaches far enough... So, unless it's really cheap and I could get it for the coolness factor I don't see myself wasting too much money on this.

It IS a good idea though, as "typing" with the controller and the onscreen GUI is really slow and awkward.

It could come in handy.  I have a full-sized bluetooth keyboard, but I've been bothered by how often I'm putting down the controller, picking up the keyboard, putting down the keyboard, and picking up the controller during my gaming sessions.  Messages "come without shadow."  I forget the name of the movie I got that saying from.

I might look into this one at some point.

The Xbox version fits in the opposite direction - between the two hand grips and although it has a bit of weight to it doesn't affect the balance or the hold on the controller.
It does seem odd that they've gone the other way and put the keyboard above the controller, not only could the extra weight "pull" the controller away from you, it means you've got to reach over the controller to type. whereas with the xbox one you could "text" with your thumbs fairly easily if you wanted to.

My guess is that they place their main concern for the DS3 controllers.  They are weighted in the arms of the controller.  Plus, the USB portion is at the top (not like the interface at the bottom like the X360 controller) for possible recharging, if that's how it can be recharged.  It doesn't seem like their's a problem so far.
