PS - I've decided to do as dee1959jay suggests and create a separate child profile for each side of the individual discs. In my mind this makes more sense since it allows searching for each title in the box set using filters, which isn't possible using just dividers within a single profile (AFAIK).

Won't you have to use dividers on the separate child profiles anyway?  If 50 films are spread over 24 disc "sides" (12A & 12B) most of the discs must have 2 films per side (on average).  Won't you have to use dividers on each child?

Yes he will, but using the substring filter when filtering by title he could still find individual titles in his collection (provided both titles are entered into the DVDP Title field). That would be more difficult, if not impossible if he was to create just 12 profiles (one per double-sided disc), because four or more titles would not fit into the DVDP Title field. Not to mention squeezing them all into a single (parent) profile, of course...

To give you an example from the 50-movie set I profiled:
one of the child profiles is called "Blood on the Sun / Flying Blind", containing the titles of the two movies on that particular disc side. Thus you can filter by title, which you wouldn't be able to do if all movie details (only) went into the parent profile called "War Classics".

dee is exactly right -- I will be entering 2 (or 3 at the most) titles in the child profiles, which (so far) are fitting just fine.

I just thought of something - can dual-sided DVDs be dual-layered on each side?  I haven't seen one in recent weeks when I started to pay attention but if the can't and you have two movies on a disc, that doesn't bold well for video compression quality...

Yes, they can.  Not terribly common in my collection but they exist.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Yes they can (they would be DVD-18s then).

However you're quite right that the video quality of these 50 movie packs usually leaves a lot to be desired.

Most of those 50 movie packs are all public domain movies with whatever prints they can get their hands on.  They won't look good no matter what their bitrate is.

What's scary is when you get a 2-3 movies per side discs, and then find they're single-layer!

I've been working through the 50-movie Mill Creek pack of pepla, and I've been doing it by child profiles for each side of disc, using disc ID, and dividers for the two movies on the side.  It seems to work pretty well (especially since they tend to use TV prints and the credits are minimal).

I've watched a couple of the Western TV episodes and can attest that the quality is atrocious.  The box states that the episodes have been re-mastered -- but that happens whenver material is transferred to digital (DVD) and doesn't mean that the quality will be improved.  The quality is no better than vHS material.  This may be unavoidable because of the age of the material -- much of which was syndicated and not network programming in the first place.

Ottobud: how's your work going? I have the same boxset, too, and i hope you'll contribute the child profiles soon, so i can add them in my db.

Almost done - 2 discs left to do!

Then I have to start on the other three 50-movie packs I own.

and there has been a few times when they use the same Disc ID on more then one disc.

I thought the algorithm had been changed for Invelos and they're now all supposed to be unique?

You are definitely right... I checked it out today... all are now unique... So I did all the child profiles for it today.

All of my children were approved right after I submitted them.  The changes to the parent are still awaiting approval, however.
