That is not your responsibility and i would hope that Gerri will take note that you are unilaterally taking action not supported by the Rules or your own Poll and that she will DECLINE any such Contribution. I will vote NO on any such Contribution and I hope everyone else will as well. You want to use Twentieth ke3ep it local.

Likewise, I'll say that I'll vote against any "20th" update where the cover shows "Twentieth", and I expect the screeners to decline any such contribution.

And like Hal I have a concern that all these profiles get some piddling little change.. and then another piddling little change etc etc.

I will also point out that the reason why we had a studio thread was so that we could be consistent when using studios so we could always use the same spelling to enable searches to work.

To discard that idea and go back to 'as credited; for studios will mean that searches on studio will fail..

Lets try and learn from history before we make a mistake

@Hal,
But because of the new distributor field, all of these profiles are going to have to be changed anyway!
It seems an ideal opportunity to make sure we get the right name in the database.
If these profiles weren't going to have to be changed anyway, I'd have agreed and said leave as is, but we're going to be inundated with changes, so might as well get this changed too.

That's assuming that Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is the correct way to enter it.

So far, the poll does not support that position.

You have now categorically stated that you don't care what the Rules say to do, or even what your own poll says. You know better and more than anyone else, I suggest you simply do what the Rules dictate, especially since there ius NO VALUE ADDED to changing to what YOU want other than YOU want it.

Since we're on this distributor topic, here's a good one.

The Blu-ray version of Halloween shows the Anchor Bay logo on the back of the case.  At the bottom of the logo, it says "A Starz Company".  Right next to that is the Starz logo with Starz Home Entertainment under it.

When I contributed this I removed the Anchor Bay listing from the production studios and added Starz Home Entertainment to the Distributor field.  Which of course generated loud protests for removing Anchor Bay.

Since there is only one Distributor field, and I don't believe Anchor Bay is a production studio, what should have been done?

I have one of these myself, and that one really is distributed by "Starz Home Entertainment". Based on that one, and what you've said, I'd say your change was correct. But if you share the EAN, I could have a look...

I don't have this release, but on the back of one of my recent Anchor Bay releases, it has "Anchor Bay Home Entertainment UK" as the licensor and as copyright holder of package design - a good indicator of who the distributor is. There is no specific mention of any distributor and the only logo is Anchor Bay's with "A Starz Company" below it.
What does the small-print say on the blu-ray?

As that cover specifically says "Distributed by Starz Home Entertainment" I can't see how anyone can argue otherwise.

You don't have the Rules to support you, sir. I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So vote away and i will so note it my comments that will accompany the Yes vote. Why did you even bother with a poll, when you had already chosen that you intended to ignore the resulkts and the Rules.

And I repeat, quote the section of the rules that says this is wrong.
Also, since when does a poll result have any influence over what we do or don't contribute - as you've said so often in the past!

I have "no categorically stated"? Or are you saying that I have "categorically stated"? In any case: I haven't. You have accused me of doing so time and time again, each time in a hopeless attempt to undermine my statements, but I certainly haven't ever stated that I don't care what the rules say - and I DO care, obviously. If I didn't, I'd have left these forums a long time ago and kept my work to myself.

or even what your own poll says.

That's true, but what's wrong with that? The poll is just a way to gauge opinion of a few active forum members, but it doesn't mean anything. You yourself have repeatedly stated that polls (especially the ones that didn't go your way) were meaningless. I'm actually pretty pleased with the poll results here: they show that quite a few people understand that the correct entry is "Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment". It always takes a bit of effort to get things changed around here, and in that light these results aren't too shabby: remember that the forum community has a long history of not voting for the logical/accurate/correct option...    Among the "20th" voters, there are bound to be a bunch of people who voted for that just because that's what they're currently using, without actually considering (or even reading) the things that have been brought forward in the course of this thread. It's not surprising that it is what most people are using - I was one of them myself - as it's prescribed by the studios reference thread. As others have confirmed, though, that entry only uses "20th" because the studios field wasn't long enough to enter the correct full name. In light of this, I feel the support for "Twentieth" is positively overwhelming, and I expect it will only grow as people realize that's indeed how it's written on all their DVD covers.

You know better and more than anyone else

I do? Gee, thanks. Let me be a little modest: I'm fairly sure I know "better and more" than some people - let's not start naming names, now - but I'm absolutely certain that I don't know better than anyone else - that really is a bit too much praise there, Skip.

You've got yourself a deal there! That's settled, then: I'll do what the rules dictate. Will you?

I already answered that earlier, too - you really should read more carefully. I started this thread because, like so many of us, I'd always been using "20th Century Fox Home Entertainment" as prescribed by the studios reference thread as well, when I encountered a 3.5-beta-contribution from Daddy DVD using "Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment". It then seemed like a good idea to try to settle this before the avalanche of DVD distributors breaks loose. After checking a large number of my own FOX DVD's (various regions/localities), and after hearing from others that confirmed that the correct legal name is "Twentieth", that is is what Fox uses itself, and after hearing from the original poster of the studios reference thread that "20th" was only used because back then the field length didn't allow for the longer, correct variant, I relented and switched to "Twentieth". And I urge everyone to do the same.

I'll back North on this one! Where in the rules do you find what you explain here Skip?

This is getting plain silly - Ken, time to round up your "children" and set us all straight!

Yes, I've had a look at this, too: the words "Distributed by Starz Home Entertainment" don't leave room for any uncertainty. Come to think of it: it's just as plain and simple as those cases that say "Distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment"...

Studios
List the Studios in the following priority.

    * Theatrical Release Studio(s)
    * Production Company(s)
    * DVD Distribution studio(s) if there is room available.

Do not abbreviate Studio names. e.g, use Universal Pictures not just Universal; The Criterion Collection rather than Criterion or Criterion Collection; Walt Disney Pictures not just Disney or Disney DVD. Exception: If the studio name is too long to fit, use standard abbreviation rules.

There is further information about correct names for studios, and the opportunity to ask questions if unsure, in the Contributions forum.

Then see the Studios thread. Which is VERY clear.

I have ALWAYS followed the rules and I have just a tad more expertise at them than you do. You don't have ANY knowledge of their background AT ALL, you weren't involved and NEVER have been. so stop pretending that you know that which you do NOT, or that you have the powers to divine them, whiuch you dpon't either. You do, however, frequently go rogue as you have on this issue and do what you damn well please, Rules be damned.
