Indeed, welcome back...I am embarassed to say that, when I first saw your avatar, I wondered why you had a picture of Mario Batali swimming with a dog.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Just an example: this post is clearly off topic. If moderators are coherent with their attitude in this thread, it should be deleted...

Blind deletion is really not a solution.

Leave content as is, publicly warn, suspend or ban the poster. That's the only way to do it transparently and for the users to know what's going on. Also, move off-topic into a separate thread or board. Don't delete them.

Moderators?!?

I'll vote in a couple of days when I catch up and see what's going on - looks like from what I've read so far things need tweaking still

I have to say that after a day I'm more confused than ever. I honestly can't tell if moderators are helping or hurting. I still see the same "stuff" that was going on when I left with most of the same players. A lot of it today seems to be directed at the moderators!?!

Most forums I go to have the name calling and bickering (I don't go to many but I do visit some). The internet itself by allowing people to be so invisible creates issues you don't have when talking to people face to face. Unfortunately I think until Invelos gets serious about banning people nothing will change.

And therefore don't warrant a reply. I would use the feedback function in such cases and let the moderator do his job.

My turn to pick on the moderators:

My previous post has been edited by the moderator to only remove the actual quote, yet the post containing the quoted text has been left unchanged. I don't mind, but it doesn't make much sense. And since this thread's topic is "How should posts be moderated?", I just thought I should point it out.

Ya_shin's doesn't make much sense either - unless he is proposing world domination..

This is becoming a joke very quickly. Then maybe the mods should make themselves available for rating by users just like the rest of us. This IS a thread discussing moderators and their action, lack thereof or their overly heavy handedness. For the mods to set themselves up as unchallengeable is simply absurd, this is not the old USSR and the mods are not the Kremlin.

Commenting on a specific moderator action will not be allowed. An open discussion on how to moderate is fine, but commenting on a specific moderator action is not allowed.

But likewise, this is a forum where free speech laws don't apply, as they don't in almost every forum.  It's their ballgame, they're just nice enough to let us play.

I think that if the mods remove a post because it is related to a censored post, they should remove/censor additional posts tied to it as well without leaving traces.  I can't say more because I'd cross the specific moderator action ruling.

In addition, I don't find it really amusing that a user with almost 12800 posts (that's 16 every day) claims his freedom of speech is impaired by comparing this forum to a communist (here) and a fascist (in another thread) dictatorship. I wouldn't let such comments stand - which probably is why I'm not a moderator.

And on a different note regarding moderation: I don't think that another user should have succeeded in bullying Invelos into a public response by repeatedly trying to circumvent a moderator action.
