Hi There,

I could not find any info in forum or support database on my issue so I am posting it here.

I am  running Windows7(64bit) (12gb of memory and 8Tb of HD)
I have been using dvdprofiler (desktop) for many years and cannot live without  it, (I have now the iPhone version too and love it as much).

Theses past few days I have installed on my desktop a few new apps and since then I cannot start dvdprofiler anymore.

I deinstalled everything that I had installed these last days, removed dvdprofiler too, rebooted multiple times, reinstalled dvdprofiler, rebooted again, performed a database repair, try to start while holding CTRL key, but even there, I still always get 2 error messages:
"Access Violation at address 00B90834 in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Write of address 00000014. (Press OK)

Access Violation at address 008F5E57 in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Write of address 00000000. (Press OK)", and dvdprofiler closes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, after 3 days without dvdprofiler, I am in total withdrawal. The only thing keeping me going is that I did a dvdprofiler backup one day before dvdprofiler start crashing...I am seriously thinking of throwing away my (2 year old) desktop and buying a new one...

Thanks,

Jean-Claude

Have you tried doing a Windows System Restore to a point prior installing the apps?

If that doesn't work and the issue is still unresolved through here or otherwise after a day or two, then you should open up a support ticket.  Click on the "Contact Us" link found at the bottom of any page, then "Support Question" at the left, then "Open a new technical support ticket."

Describe the issue in detail (be sure to also mention the apps that you installed) and hopefully they can help you.

Hey Blair,

You are my Hero!

I selected my oldest system restore and once completed, dvdprofiler restarted like a charm!

Thank you so so much! you have no idea...

I am getting the same exact errors reported by Jean-Claude, also on Windows 7 64-bit.  Interestingly this started right around the same date.  Going back to an earlier System Restore point is not an option for me as I have added a new monitor, installed/updated graphics drivers, a variety of Windows updates etc.  In fact, from the maybe not coincidental timing, I wonder if possibly this problem is the result of a Windows update that was pushed out that week.  Going back to an earlier System Restore point seems like the wrong solution.

I opened a new technical support ticket on 8/6/11.  A week later, its status still shows as In Queue.  How long does it take before resolutions or at least updates to support tickets are posted?

It's unlikely that this is related to a Windows update.
I'm running Win 7 64 Bit (HP and Professional) no problems on both machines.

Check what happens if you reset your graphics driver to the older version.
If it was a new installation with a chipset change (NVidia / ATI) get the removal tools from the website of the chipset providers. Remove both drivers completely and reinstall only the currently needed.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Many thanks for the suggestion.  It was in fact a new graphics card install (Nvidia GeForce 9400GT) which installed and then updated drivers.  Looks like the newer driver is dated 8/3/11, so very new; I tried rolling back to the prior driver (May 2011 as I recall) but no change.  I'll continue trying one thing at a time, or I may be able to customize the way this application is handled via the Nvidia control panel.  Thanks again!

I have the same problem but a driver roll-back does not resolve. Unfortunately my updated ATI drivers are required for proprietary purposes (switchable graphics and power profile) so reverting wouldn't be an appropriate fix for me even if it worked.

Any other ideas?

Have you tried pressing and holding ALT while starting DVD Profiler? This will attempt to start DVD Profiler without plugins. Perhaps a plugin you're using is causing the problem?

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried pressing and holding Alt while starting DVD Profiler, but I get the same errors.  In any case this is on a fresh install, after uninstall and removal of database etc., and with plugins de-selected during the install.  So it doesn't seem like it's a plugin causing the error.

I suppose I could trying installing old/archived drivers for my graphics card, but that's not a very appealing prospect.

Add me to the list of people getting the same error message.

I believe this has happened since I installed MediaMonkey a few weeks ago.  Very loath to uninstall that as I've added my whole music collection and don't want to start it all over again from scratch.

I've tried the fixes suggested in this thread with same lack of success.  Tried reinstalling an earlier version of Profiler but it won't open my database file, keeps telling me this is from a later version so I'll need to get that.

Has anyone had a response to their support tickets lodged for this?  Hope a fix will be forthcoming soon.

Try performing a database repair by selecting Start > All Programs (or Programs) > DVD Profiler > Database Repair Utility

It should default to your database but if you have more than one, you may need to browse to it.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I had tried that earlier, but since then I've uninstalled, including the database, and reinstalled.  So now this is a fresh install, with no database as these errors occur before I can even get that far.  I'd be happy just getting the application to work, because then I can go about getting the database back in place.

Have you tried changing the Compatibility Mode for the program.
Go to 'Program files (x86)/dvd profiler' and right click on the dvdpro exe file, select properties then  compatibility mode and try different settings.
At the end of the day, DVD profiler is a 32 bit program, so some problems could occur in a 64bit OS.

While I can't say I haven't ever had any crashes, it more or less runs as I expect it to run under Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and a pretty much souped up computer.

One thing you can try is to run it as an Administrator.  Hold down the SHIFT key and right-click on the icon.  Then select "Run as Administrator".  This will test to see if a permission issue is causing the problems.

You could try booting your PC up in safe mode to disable all the graphics, audio and other various drivers. DVD Profiler may not look pretty in thsi mode, but you can determine whether or not it is a driver issue that way.
Thanks for your support.

This seems very coincidental that many of us are having the same problem at this same time. I posted a support ticket on August 3, 2011 and despite repeated requests can't get a response from Invelos - there is no phone number or chat either. I have completely uninstalled, deleted my database and reinstalled from a fresh download and I get the same error:

Access violation at address 00B90834 in module 'dvdpro.exe'. Write of address 00000014.

Help!
