I've got a box set (with a UPC/EAN) containing seven audio CD's and two DVD's - all individually packaged, with no UPC/EAN's of their own.

Now: if this was a box containing only DVD's, things would be simple. However, as this isn't so much a DVD box set, but more a CD box set with two DVD's thrown in, I'm wondering... Obviously, disc ID-based profiles for the two DVD's can be contributed - no problem there. But can I also submit a parent profile for the box set? I'd like to, as that's the item that I bought. One the parent profile is where I'd like to store the "Price Paid", for instance. And I'd like my database to contain the box cover art - as that's what I see on my shelf.

So I've made a parent profile for the box in my local database, with the two child profiles for the included DVD's attached to it. The question is: can I submit that parent profile for the box - even though it's essentially a CD box set with two DVD's thrown in?

Just to be clear: obviously I only want to profile the DVD stuff, not the audio CD's.

I'd say it depends whether the box has been released explicitly as a CD-only box set or as a combined CD/DVD box set.

In the former case, CD is the main media type, which cannot be contributed, and the DVDs are bonus discs, which can be contributed by Disc ID.

In the latter case, I don't see any reason not to contribute the parent profile, as both CD and DVD constitute the main media types.

Here are a few Dutch releases each of which combine 10 CDs, 5 DVDs and a book in one box:
0602498481288, 0600753064009, 0600753334928.

And here are some releases combining Super Audio CDs, DVDs and a book in one box:
5099951968328, 094638805724, 5099950385126.

If you take a look at these profiles, you'll see that on their covers several media types are mentioned as integral part of the set - which I feel is why their parent profiles can be contributed.

If, however, the box cover explicitly says that it's a CD set with bonus DVDs, I wouldn't contribute the parent profile.
