There is only one pro: if you have a small collection, you can save much space on your harddisk and, at least on physical harddisks (instead of SSDs) the database searches speed up.

The cons:
- When new profiles creep in, you may miss headshots, which were already in the database.
- The automatisms when importing BYs are rather annoying, which makes me to add even fake entries in the cast/crew list to prevent DVDProfiler from guessing BYs. Removing cast/crew entries (with or without headshots) worsens this process
- When (re)importing headshots you don't get questioned which headshot to use (any headshot, no matter how bad or wrong it is, overwrites a non existing headshot).
- If you take care of common names and/or BYs, there will be illegal cast/crew entries, which are marked with headshots telling so (post 2ff in this thread). Removing this headshots cuts you off from getting this "warnings"...

With two more titles to confirm I tend to use Denis Dutton for cross links right now.
- this variant will most probably win at the end
- this variant is the winner of the current raw CLT

Hell no, I did never walk through all 100.000 headshots manually. It was enough work to collect and compare all existing sources. But the headshots I added or corrected are already "thousands" too

I found a couple of head shots errors...

This is the thread were to discuss such issues. But to have a base to discuss on, screen shots would be very helpful. Although most of the picture are gone, you can reference the Headshots v10 Thread as an example...

Both of them need BYs either. As far as I can see, the headshots were correct in v11.

Unkown Thomas/Tom/Tim Quinn entries
The following entries in our data base can't be assigned to any other person in this list by IMDB. Either because the film is not included in the IMDb or because the artist is not listed with IMDb…
Any documentation on these guys are highly appreaciated.

In fact the BY for Michael Madsen is needed as documented here. Therefore the headshot without the BY is invalid and you have to replace the cast entry in profile with the correct entry.

Remarks:
- There are tons of errors, mistakes and flaws in the headshot database. Nobody can clean up such a big mess alone. Everytime I stumble across an obvious mistake, I correct it an contribute another correction headshot (see the posts 2ff in this thread). Today Michael Madsen got included...
- Many of the problems arouse from BYs; they were defined over the years and still get more and more. Each new documentation invalids existing headshots... All the BY documentations are collected here - thanks to Kluge...
- Common names are the other big pain in the ... - you find the link to the collection in my sig....

This will still save a bunch of time because there will likely be a lot of duplicate profiles if the variants are for the same person, so the credits scraping for the combined list should go a lot faster than the total of the individual variants' search.

I don't know if this saves that much time. Since the data base is not normalized, each profile lists it's own variant of the name. Potential savings could only result out of profiles, where two different name variants of the searched person are listed for different roles and/or in both cast/crew sections... There are persons using different names for different unions or other personal reasons, but I don't know if their number is high enough to take care of them....

The base job - getting headshots - is rather easy. It is covered with the first post

All other posts address issues around common names, birth years and other caveats of the name handling in DVDProfiler...

But you should at least get an overview of the complete thread, since there are updates hidden in it...

As far as I can say, Goodguy used only the data scraped from the website. He did no extra run through the data base.

All essential data is presented on the detail screens:

Although there is a problem, when both "Credited as" and "BY" are used in one profile. But this is a DVD Profiler problem which also shows up, when contributing new BYs with credited as entries...

Concerning running scraping in parallel: This is not possible due to the session handling of invelos.com. If you start more than one CLT Lookup in one browser (two tabs or windows), the results get mixed up.

But it would be interesting to "batch start" more than one query at once.

e.g. after entering First=Zhang, Last=Ziyi you get multiple lines of search strings prefilled with: "Zhang Ziyi", "Ziyi Zhang". Then the user can decide to remove lines from this search strings and add others before starting the whole batch...

Other examples:
First=James, Middle=R., Last=Alexander -> Prefilled Strings: James R. Alexander, James Alexander, Alexander James R. -> the user removes the "Alexander James R." and adds "Jim Alexander" to the search list.
First=Robert, Last=Downey, Jr. -> Prefilled Strings: Robert Downey, Jr., Robert Downey, Jr, Robert Downey Jr, ...

Concerning the number of profiles in the video: Since each page has 25 entries, it is easy to verify, that Zhing Ziyi has 313 entries in the Invelos CLT (12 full pages à 25 entries plus 13 entries on the 13th page - hopefully nobody around is believing in bad luck )

Maybe an issue with localities?

Facts which I learned over the years:
- Any headshot is resized for displaying (enlarged and shrinked)
- and yes, the headshot are stored 300*400 pixels, which is the maximum size for displey either.
- Any larger headshot dropped onto DVDP is resized to this size.
- There is a bug in the graphics library, which resizes to 301*401 pixels sometimes
- There is a bug in the graphics library, which adds black borders to right and bottom - most probably the same bug...
- copying and pasting from/to DVD Profiler reduces quality, and is prone to lose pixel lines or columns - most probably the same bug...

(1) Is there a standard way of entering a CLT search in a single text box, or is FN , MN, LN, BY in separate boxes OK?
(2) Is there a way to specify variants in a single search, or are the searches usually separate? (e.g. zhang zhi, zhi zhang, zhang ziyi) ?

(1)
I never thought about that. - I usually refer to IMDb for the existing name variants and copy/paste them to the CLT tools. This works rather well, because the CLT tools only offer a single imput field.

I don't know, if it is usefull to seperate the name into F/M/L, because the CLT does the oposite. It equals First Middle//Last with First/Middle/Last...

But it would definitly be a valuable piece of information, if existing other parsings in our CLT are listed (-> Zhang Zhi example).

I don't think, entering a BY is usefull, because the BY is only valid with a single name variant; and usually not all profiles with this name variant include the needed BY (many profiles simply are outdated)...
- The Invelos CLT tool completely ignores the BY
- Goodguy's tool searches without any BY and offers to filter the result list with the found BYs.

(2)
The existing tools do no parsing at all: one single line of input.

Just to clarify: The profiles can't be fully checked before acceptance. The screeners (and voters) can only check for obvious mistakes and rule breaks (which results in rejecting the contribution). But the opposite conclusion could not be drawn: an accepted profile need not to be valid and free of errors.

The responsibility for valid and valuable contributions is still carried by the contributor...
