Wrong< i gave you the answer, i told you precosely where the limitations come from and what the answers would be. Bigger Box, Multi-Page format. WEhat I hear you saying and maybe I am wrong, ius that you want the data to come to you in a ready made form which meets your needs and and you have to do nothing more to it than write your report.. I hope I am wrong, but that is what I am hearing. The simplest possible standard that could be readily applied by all for Contribution without a lot of libo dancing and trying to figure out what worked and what didn't and what exceptions might come up is what was developed. It was also recognized that that would not suit everyone , in fact it was recognized that NO answer would suit EVERYONE, if another standard had been adopted, someone would be whining about that and their complaint would be evry bit as valid as yours.

You pointed out what you thought was a conflict and I proved you wrong in very short order. I then provided you the answer. If you run a local database that follows the Rules, and I don't, then will get ready-made data, anything else and you will have to tinker with the data yourself to get it the way you want it. Sorry, Mathias.

Sorry Skip, I don't mean to be rude, but you simply don't play in my league. I'm just not sure if you fail to understand the problem or if you deliberately ignore it.

Anyway, I'm done. If you want to continue, here is a repost of the question you haven't answered yet.

How do you create a report that extracts the (let's say) 3 top-billed actors from a cast list that follows the order of the end credits? And why does the Details View doesn't show them?

You will have to manually reconstruct your data to achieve the result you desire in the report, Mathias. As for the Details View, I will look into that and see if i can sort that out out for you.

You might be right, about me not playing in your league, I play in  the pros not the minors. Don't talke it personally, mathias, you poked me in the ribs, I poked back.

Here's what I have been doing in my local db only  when the end credits are in order of appearance or alphabetical order: I input the opening credits first followed by the ending credits, separated by a divider. I use the role names from the end credits to complete the beginning credits. This is helpful on my PDA and I'm sure it would be useful to those who print reports.

This is the way I started to do it for my database too. - I think this should considered for future rule sets...

I already tried to discuss this topic with Skip private, but he - as many others here - is not able to think of evolving the rules after they are once written.

personal opinion here... but I personally prefer it the way it is now... I like seeing it only in the way of the end credits. To me... it is more accurate to the disc itself... and I like that.

Of course... I don't have a PDA and I don't use reports... so I don't see those problems myself.

It's NOT evolving, AA. It's a complete change, As i described, the Online database is never going to be ALL things to ALL users, I am sorry it's not the way YOU want it done but that is simply TOO BAD. You have the freedom to do whatever you wish, if we were doing it the way you wanted, then someone else would complain and so on, It is for YOU and others to simply recognize that fact and handle it accordingly.

Thios doe not even factor in the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of man-hours that have been spent so far that you are saying very cavalierly, just throw it all out and redo it all. It is not going to happen.

Ok, I respect that. But why "more accurate"? The Cast would be exactly the same either way.

It is more accurate in my opinon because more times then not the main cast is also in the end credits with their role name in the end. so to me... the end credits... in the order of the end credits... gives what is in my opinion... what was intended by the studio for a complete and accurate list of the cast... so that is where I believe the info should come from.

Not necessarily. If it was done m.cellophane's way, we would just *add* the opening credits before the ending credits, separated by a divider, not "throw it all out and redo" at all.

It seems totally feasible to me. It is not changing/destroying any existing data that has time invested into it, but adding data to provide functionality for reports, layouts and details.

I would certainly support this as optional functionality - ie if it was optional whether it showed in your cast lists or not.

Maybe someone should start a poll and follow up with a rule change proposal if the poll results justify it.

Basically, I see 3 options:
  • Leave it as it is. Follow the end credits.

  • Use m.cellophane's approach: put a duplicate of the top-billed actors first, followed by a divder, followed by the end credits.

  • Just move the top-billed actors first without duplicating them.

  • It should be pointed out that the current rules damage program functionality in various areas, including:
  • Movie Pick

  • Detail View

  • Reports

  • PDA
