To throw another spanner in the works (for those who insist on "voice-only" for ALL animated works), what about rotoscoped movies such as A Scanner Darkly, where what is presented on-screen is absolutely and clearly the performance of the actor(s) in a recognisable form (e.g. Keanu Reeves is clearly playing Bob Arctor)?

Voice-only should be reserved for just that.  Whether the rules/their interpretation need some adjustment is another matter.  I recognised Will Smith and Angelina Jolie from their PERFORMANCES in A Shark Tale, so don't see why they should not be credited for those performances.

and a lot if not all of voice and Motion from the actors are captured on film and then put to the animation and computer models to transcend around that voice..

I did look up Andy Serkis and is see that he is not voice only for Gollum.., and He did Kong as well.., But no voice but got the credit for his role..

and Tom Hanks in Polar Express is all filmed and then transfered to animation, That's why he looks like he does..

For Shark Tale.. same thing. The Facial Acting and voice is all there.

I would agree, Scanner Darkly is yet another phenomenon in this... for that as well as Beowulf I would not check the voice box - these actors did the acting, it is not true animation.

Very good example, and the least "tempered with" of all the films mentioned (meaning: in the other films there are moments when the actor himself can't do this 'n that so they go off the "mo-cap" at times, or the animators adjust the performance/movements heavily.  At times, not to take away from the poor actors running around in blue suits all day!).

The brief sequence in Waking Life as well.
