Cast and crew for documentaries may be fun...

And what about datas ??? I have DVDs about law texts, and technical datas... dvdprofiler doesn't help very much for that. But I can use it for movies VHS and laserdiscs...

I'll grant you that dvd profiler is not good for data dvd's...nobody would dispute that...I doubt anybody really cares...but that doesn't change the fact that we're not just profiling a film but the medium (in this case dvd) that it comes on.

I do not disagree with you.  The problem is, some people either don't share that ability or simply refuse to use it.  Because of that, there needs to be a clarification to the rule.  If there isn't, people will continue to force their interpretation fo the title into the db.

I wish we could have a new rule which said "You must use your common sense"

I totally agree with that. Some users propose here solutions that would make them redden with shame in "real" life...

Other.

Add a new field for "DVD Title".  Default it to the existing "Title Field".  Update it going forward.

Change the existing "Title Field" to "Title in the Credits".

Sure.  That one sentence could be substituted for the entire set of Rules.

It would make voting soooooo easy! Every vote would be correct regardless.

I like that proposal, but with just a tiny correction, it's perfect IMO:

"You must use my common sense"

And, as we are often reminded, this is DVD Profiler, not Film Profiler.

Then why do we include the film credits?  If we're really profiling only the DVD, we should be including only the people who worked on producing the DVD, like the guy who does the cover art or the guy who writes the text on the back.

Basically anyone who's "reminding" us of this hasn't thought it through very well.

Believe it or not, I asked this very same question several years ago.  It was a rhetorical question and, at the time, I was playing 'Devil's Advocate'.  In addition, you question makes no sense as it questions a point I never made.

I will, however, answer it.

The program is called DVD Profiler because we are profiling the DVD release of the film / TV Series / Sporting Event / etc.  That is why we include things like, DVD release date, SRP, Dist. Trait, etc.  If this were Movie Profiler, we would not include those things.  We would simply have an IMDb style db.

Because we are profiling the DVD release of the film, the title should be that of the DVD release.  We have the 'Original Title' field for the theatrical title.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
