I was going through the end credits of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Jabba the Hutt is credited as such.

Role      Actor
Jabba the Hutt      Himself

I went and looked up 'Himself' on the credit lookup Tool and "Himself" as an actor appears in the following films profiles.

100 Women
The Aviator (8 profiles)
Bachelor Mother
Der bewegte Mann: Audio Video Foto Bild
Dead Bodies
The Dead Next Door
Field of Dreams (2 profiles)
Fix og Færdig
Hardball
Head Cheerleader Dead Cheerleader
Hellbent
M*A*S*H: Season One: Collector's Edition
Philadelphia
The Replacements (4 profiles)
Six Days Seven Nights
Smokin' Aces: Verleihversion
Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (4 profiles)
Who's Your Caddy?

I certainly don't remember Jabba the Hutt in Field of Dreams or The Aviator.

Now I found one profile for Star Wars:TPM that used a credited as.
Jabba the Hutt  [Himself] as Jabba the Hutt

I don't think 'Himself or Herself' should ever be entered as an actors name, credited as sure but not used as a real actors name.

Read this previous discussion / poll for opinion on such rare cases.

It should be neither used as a person's name nor as a credited as name. It should exclusively used as a role name.

Thanks.

Another question related to Star Wars.

On the Bonus Disc of the Star Wars trilogy there is the 2.5 hour documentary in which a number of actors audition for roles. My question is would they get credited or not?

They are credited as they appear on screen, but only during the audition footage. So would the footage be considered as 'Archive Footage' and thus not be credited at all or be credited with or w/o the uncredited box checked?

If this is bonus material... according to the rules they should not be listed at all...

rules quote:
Quote:
Do not list actors and crew who appear only in special features, or whose scenes were deleted from the main feature, even if they appear in special features.

See where I put in bold... special features do not get cast/crew.

Well the entire disc is "Special Features" and the profile already has a partial list of cast members and 2 directors credited.

I even did a credit lookup and there is many profiles for the Bonus Materials disc that list these "cast" members in their profiles and that includes those that auditioned for roles including Kurt Russell.

does not mean they are correct per the rules... as the rules clearly state not to use cast/crew for people only in special features... per the rules they should not be there.

Now I never said no documentary can have cast and crew... from the way I understand it... "Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman" is a documentary that is a feature of it's own which was released on it's own. Making it able to have cast/crew... at least from how I understand it... the way it was explained when something similar came up a while back ago.

But if it is just a documentary... made only to be a bonus feature to the set.... then that does not get cast/crew as we don't add them to special features. If this (star wars set) is the same way (released separately as a feature itself) I would not know.. but going by the info you gave I can only tell you what I have been told in the past.

Now if this is a documentary that was released separately as it's own feature such as "Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman"... then it too should have cast/crew... and then I would say... with documentation I don't see why they couldn't be credited with the uncredited box checked.

Personally I think it's rather dumb then to not be able to contribute cast/crew from a 2.5 hour documentary on such a popular series of films just because the documentary appears on a "Special Features" disc of a set.

I think that the original intent of that part of the rule was so that cast/crew would not be entered into a particular films profile. For example,  Dante's Peak has a documentary on the same disc as the film and it would be wrong to use a divider to be able to include those that appear in the documentary.

This also wouldn't be right for 2 or 4 disc sets which are housed in the same case such as Titanic or The Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions and without their own individual case.

But in the case of the Star Wars Special Features disc it is housed in it's own keep case and has it's own disc ID already in the database.

I think you mis-understood me... when I said released on it's own... I didn't mean released on DVD on it's own... I meant originally... for example...

"Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman" was originally aired on TV as a documentary of it's own.

"Boogie Nights"... which is a documentary on the making of the movie "From dusk til Dawn" was (from what I understand) originally released in the theater with it's own release date.

But something that was created for the DVD release does not count as something that was seperately released... so would not be one of the "Features" of the set... so being only a dvd extra would not get cast/crew.

That is how I understand it from the rules... and the explanation the last time something like this came up.

Now... whether or not this documentary you are talking about qualifies as such... that I do not know as I am not familiar with it's origins.

I also think the special features rule applies when the bonus material covers only one film. ie you don't add cast & crew to the end of the main movie profile.
But a special features disc that covers multiple films (as in this case) is allowed to have it's own profile so I don't see why it shouldn't have it's own cast & crew either.
That rule was to prevent us adding special features cast & crew to the movie profile, not to stop us adding any cast & crew to a special features specific profile.

I'm pretty sure that this 2.5 hour documentary is a longer version of the same documentary that aired on A&E or AMC (whatever network it was). But I can't recall if it aired before or after the dvd release, if it matters.
