Does squaring out the corners of a cover scan constitute a significant enough change for a contribution?

To be honest I don't see the point. I certainly wouldn't class it as a "significant improvement" and personally I like to see the rounded corners preserved.

I personally agree with Northbloke. If the corners are rounded... then I believe they should be rounded in profiler.

I agree with Pete's agreement with North.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I guess I'm in the minority as I prefer the squared corners since it looks a bit more professional, but agree with the others that squaring the corners isn't really a significant improvement.  If they cleaned up dust and scratches as well or improved the contrast/brightness or something then I'd be more inclined to vote Yes.  But if all they did was load the current images into an image editor and painted the corners, then that kind of seems a waste of time.

Vega saved me the trouble of typing my opinion (but i'll blather a bit anyway)

I know when i submit scans i do square the corners, simply for aesthetic reasons.  I haven't encountered one yet that i felt was negatively impacted by this since i'm usually just extending the color/pattern a few pixels.  If i found one i felt i couldn't improve i'd let the corners stand and submit as is.

I'm with Vega and Tweeter on this.  I prefer squared corners, but I don't really think that alone would make for a "significant improvement".

If, as Jim has asked, a user submitted images where the sole change was squaring off the rounded corners, then no, that is not a significant enough change for contribution.

I agree that squaring of the corners alone is not a significant improvement nor is it a requirement. I do, however, square off all rounded corners on the covers that I submit to the database. I just think it looks better.

I fully echo 8Ball's comments, and prefer squared corners when possible.

As to the main question, just squaring the corners isn't a significant improvement.

if we are all for maintaining the accuracy of the database then why apply a different rule to the corners ?

Rounded stay rounded

Squared stay squared .

Looks like we need to make a feature request so we can search for square/round corners!
