The new update solves a few minor problems. And does a few things for the viewers convenience..

I used a ethernet cable in the past but just use the discs now. However, as this format is essentially dead there is really no need. No new discs are in production and the ones out there that I've rented and the few I own now play fine. There is NO call for these continual updates. Their energies are best spent elsewhere I would think. Seems more like beating a dead horse in my view.
Now if Panasonic would send out such discs for my BD30 I wouldn't have to search their site for updates as they don't even email me with a notice that one is coming - really lame customer service! They could learn a few things from Toshiba! |

Some people, myself included, have heavily invested in the HD DVD format (200+ titles), and whilst there are no longer new films coming out, it's fantastic that Toshiba haven't forgotten their customers. There where issues that have been fixed (jaggies on some titles & no detection of 60hz material) and I'm glad they have sorted it.  | | | | Stuart |

I even plan on buying another HD-DVD Player just in case. Since my current one might not live forever. I already contacted Onkyo and Toshiba in Austria to see if they have any left. Since I work at a retailer I might get a decent price. Because now, for instance at amazon.de they really scam you on the price. I myself have 160+ Titles and I am still buying HD-DVD's when I see stuff I overlooked. It's nice to see that Toshiba cares. Not at all like Samsung who released their 1.9 FW for the BD-P 1400 only in the US. In Europe we still have the 1.8.. Of course, eventually the updates will end but based on my experience with Toshiba on HD/DVD to date I'd be very willing to seriously consider their future technology offerings.
Very few manufactures go to this trouble after a product line closes down.
