When there is no UPC you need to copy over the Disc ID instead.

I tried doing that but I got the warning that it was an invalid UPC/EAC.

It has been a while since I used it to create a new child profile... but if I remember right... you need to put an "I" in front of the disc ID.

Sorry... forgot!

It's actually not a child profile but a new disc entirely.

Odd thing is, I just tried the whole process again with another disc that has no UPC and it worked.  Odd.  Just going to keep plugging away at it I suppose.

Thanks for the advice though!

I used the term child profiles... but they are actual disc ID profiles. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, I THOUGHT it worked but it didn't get added properly to my database.  Didn't have a collection number assigned and when I tried to upload the profile I got the error that an invalid UPC was indicated.  I also lost the entire overview that I typed in.

*sigh*  I give up.  Gonna just do it manually without using plugins.  I'm probably doing something wrong in the program itself (still new to it), but it's way easier for me to just add the disc the traditional way.  Saves me a lot of frustration (don't want to have to type the overview over and over again if in case I lose it again).

Hope the plugin works for everyone else though.

Sorry you had troubles. I wish I had gotten a chance to walk with you before you gave up. But so be it.

I also hope you are aware that some of the issues may be (not sure) "noobie" type things. For example, the official forms of the "Profile ID" and the fact that one is required are well known to most experienced users.

The formats are documented many times throughout the Forums. The tooltip in DVDPca says "Enter a vailid UPC/EAN, Manual ID or DiscID," but it does not explain what they are, assuming that the user knows that already. Sorry about that.

I am surprised about losing the Overview. DVDPca does not have any facility for editing the Overview. But it does call internally the DVDP Edit page, so I will run through that scenario to make sure that the plugin is properly saving the edited results.

Perhaps in the future, you will find some value in DVDPca at a later time, once you have mastered the other stuff. You set a pretty high bar, attempting to learn a new product, plus advanced features (plugins, contributions) all at once. Best of luck as you proceed.

BTW, the most useful feature of DVDPca is ostensibly to pull accurate audio/video infro from the disc. There is no requirement for you to use DVDPca to actually create the profile, if that doesn't work for you. But the actual data should be valid and comes up within seconds in either the standalone or plugin versions.

Even if you prefer to type it in manually, DVDpca should still save you some time over reading and typing info from the DVD covers.
Thanks for your support.

I confirmed this bug. I believe the bug does not always occur. I think it happens when certain other profile fields are blank when the profile is created, and I do not correctly catch the error and fill in the empty field. This causes the profile to be only partially saved in the database.

The bug is avoidable, by only editing the profile directly within DVD Profiler after DVDPca creates it.

I will fix the bug on next release. Thanks for finding it.

Copied from that other thread...

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Maybe I'll try the .NET4 route soon. I have been reluctant for fear that it would be incompatible with a lot of user's environements. I like the idea of giving it a try. I'll PM you with link to a .NET4 standalone as a test.

For the record, all my machines are now Win7 - both x32 and x64, so there is something else going on - we just don't know what ...

Maybe it's not the .Net thing then. Do you actually have the .NET 2 framework listed in your control panel for Win7 x64? As far as I know it's not installable? What .NET versions does your Win7 list as installed?

I seem to only have MS.NET V4 Cleint and Extended explicitly listed under Programs in the Control Panel.

But included in the c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework folder are:

I'm sure that I installed Win7 as an Upgrade over WinXP - maybe that explains something ...

Nope, just checked - my new clean install of Windows Home Server 2011 has all the same folders, indicating versions 2 through 4 of .NET installed, in both the Framework and Framework64 folders.

Now waiting for the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" Panel to come up. I will report back if I see something interesting. You might want to take a look also.

Edit: There is one relevant entry, for MS .NET 3.5.1 and it is checked. How about on your side?

Yup, mines the same as yours (even down to the version numbers) except I don't have this folder:

04/02/2011  04:55 PM    <DIR>          URTInstallPath_GAC

I also noted the NET 3.51 in the add features thing. It has 2 sub-items which weren't selected so I selected them and Windows installed them. Tried DVDPca again but it didn't help, still the same problem.

so I finally got around to checking this out... very cool, but I am having a stupid problem. I am trying to use this to fill in the blanks on a profile that I already created, but is totally empty. I can't seem to figure out how to transfer the scan and inputed data into the actual profile. I think my mistake is I assumed this was automatic, or a simple button press, or copy/paste. But i only find new profile creation or save as xml... and I cant figure out what to do next...

Let me know so I can continue to test this out.

Thanks for the hard work!

mediadogg, PLEASE don't take my posts as though I am complaining (even though it sure comes across that way).  I'm just venting my frustrations over my inability to get it to work properly.  I know you've put in a ton of work on this plugin, and as I mentioned I know it's a great tool.  I am sure that a lot of my issues are due to me being so new to the program.

I did love how the plugin culls so much info from the disc.  I was having a lot of trouble having it stick and add the new profile properly to my collection.  So I figured I'd just go ahead and do it manually (I believe I must be doing it okay as the few discs I've contributed thus far have made it through to release).

Thanks again for the help that you did provide to me.  Once I get a better handle on DVD Profiler as a whole I'll revisit the plugin again.
