| Posted: | | | | Quick question - should be relatively painless, but I've found that not all contributors/voters think alike on this, so... Faced with a disc that has both the film's theatrical cut as well as a (longer) extended cut, but each cut has a different set of audio tracks/subtitles, how do we handle that? To me, it seems that the logical answer lies in how we deal with the running time', on which the rules are quite clear: Quote: For branching titles, or those with multiple versions (e.g. Theatrical and Director's Cut) on the same disc, use the longest running time. So per the rules, we only look at the cut with the longest running time. Do we do the same with audio tracks and subtitles? I mean: do we only enter audio tracks and subtitles for the longest cut, and ignore any (different) audio tracks and subtitles that only accompany the shorter cut? Or do we somehow list them both, and if so, in which order, and how do we make it clear which belongs to which? |

| Posted: | | | | My first impulse was to vote "Longest Cut Only".
Then I remembered that many "Extended Versions" come (at least in Germany) with Original Audio Track only. So my new vote is: "Mix".
Sadly this results in an inconsistency regarding your quote from the rules and/or BluRay/DVD - Combos. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | IMHO if they are on the disc they should be listed... no matter which cut it is for. We have the ability to list more then one Audio track and subtitles unlike what we have for running time... which is why we needed a special rule for the running time. | | | Pete |

As an aside, I believe the rules specify longest cut for running time because we can only enter one running time. We don't have that limitation for audio or subs. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Mmmm: 11 versus 7 votes - not exactly the landslide I was hoping for. Effectively, this means being buried in no-votes no matter which way I go (which is why I started this thread in the first place), with no solution in sight... |

| Posted: | | | | One of the parts of the rules states:
List audio tracks in the order in which they are encoded on the disc, determined via your DVD player or DVD-ROM drive.
Would it cover this situation - as in, "just enter the tracks as they appear on the disc", without making any link between any particular audio track and any particular cut? | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |

Because the audio tracks aren't just somehow encoded om the disc, they are bound to the video track they belong to. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I have always used the specs. from the theatrical version if it's on the disc. After all this is the standard version, other versions are a "bonus". |

Extended versions are usually prominently advertised on the cover, therefor I would treat it as the main version rather than a "bonus". | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |
